Sylvania Silverstars-- My personal opinion

This is in no way to offend anybody.. but i purchased the sylvannia silverstars.. and lets just put it this way... They are horrible and in no way match the Xenon HID lights we have... Im not saying that I can buy something for 50 bucks and it will definently match it, but this came no where close. It was SLIGHTLY a little whiter than the stock highs.. As a result, my next choice are the PIAA Extreme White or maybe some Euro Design H4's... ( I know somebody with the Sylvannia Silverstars will look at this and become offended. I just wanted to tell the people who are thinking about matching their fogs with their Xenon's that it isnt anywhere close.. thats all )

Re: Sylvania Silverstars-- My personal opinion

thats because you cannot match a halogen light with a xenon light, its just not worth the effort. if you DO manage to find a bulb that will match, it will have so much coating or filter that it will interefere with the quality of the light output

I know pretty much nothing about replacing the bulbs, haven't had a chance to catch up on this thing, but if you can't match halogen with xenon, why not put xenons into the fog lights? Excuse my question if its stupid.

Re: Sylvania Silverstars-- My personal opinion

badboyg200,

Give the PIAA extreme whites a try. I installed them over the weekend and they look very good.

I will point out that when shining the PIAAs and HIDs on the (gray) sheetrock in my garage, I did notice that PIAAs didn't quite match the whiteness of the HIDs, i.e., there was still a yellow tint. But, when looking at the lights directly from above against the lamp housing or straight on, they look very close. I realize that I could've gone with a higher color temperature bulb, but I wanted to stay away from any bulbs that would possibly give off a blueish tint. In any event, I consider them to be much better than stock.

From what other members who have tried the PIAA fogs have said, they seem to burn out very fast as compared to the Sylvanias. Just something to keep in mind.

Re: Sylvania Silverstars-- My personal opinion

I think i want to try a higher temperature bulb.. for I am looking for a little shade of blue in my lights... I just want it to look more Bi-Xenon-ish thats all.. I cant stand yellow in my lights.. I really dont care if they burn out fast.. I dont use my highs very often anyways so it doesnt really matter

if we're talking about matter of bulbs, i think piaas are great. just watch what you get. my friend was using piaas on his car for around 2 years and he didn't need them anymore so he gave them to me. it lasted me another year and a half at least. he was saying something about genuine piaas made in japan are good and long lasting, but if you buy the wrong kind, they will last you a very short time. also you have to make sure you don't touch the actual glass part of the bulb as the oil from your hands will cut its life more than half.

Speedoholic --- The Philips Ultinon 6000K are HID lights... they arent the H4 size bulbs.. You need the HID kit for that ..

Does anybody know if it is possible to install HID's for the fog/ high/ low's area?

You can, and some have installed HIDs for fogs. The problem however is that you will lose functionality of either the high beam or fogs in a standard conversion.

I believe that CATZ sells a dual capsule H4 replacement HID which would maintain the fog and high beams. Not sure how well they work, and there may be some compromises with the beam patterns, which is also true with most HID conversions regardless.
