License Plate Install

After some considerable thinking, I've decided to install the factory front license plate bracket. Yes, it means drilling the bumper, but I wasn't comfortable with the alternatives. Now that my plates have arrived, I'm missing the instructions. Can anyone explain what the white plastic pieces are for? I originally thought that it attached behind the front bumper cover to hold the bracket, but I see that there is no access point to get behind the cover. I'm presuming the metal pieces are used with carriage bolts to hold the plate to the bracket. TIA.

Re: License Plate Install

Installing the plate bracket is your dealers job and they should do it for free.

Re: License Plate Install

I like to do most work on the car myself. That way, I know it's done carefully. Anyone out there who's done the install?

Re: License Plate Install

It did occur to me that perhaps a swap would be in order with someone suffering from the pain of having two mounting holes in their front bumper. As I think more about this, I'm going to try some of the home remedies that others have used to avoid the drill.

Re: License Plate Install

If you do a search here, I think I saw something that might solve your problem.

It was a license frame that didnt need drilling because it attated through the front 2" square plug in the front bumper and kind of floated in front of the car.

Try this link, they have what I was talking about. No holes needed. Scroll down to bottom to see big pics.

Re: License Plate Install

Thanks for the suggestion. I've thought long and hard about this option, but I'm very concerned about any damage to the frame or to the hole for the tow hook in the event of the inevitable bump in the parking lot or when street-parked. There are just too many inconsiderate people out there with their Ford Tauruses, SUVs and minivans who use their bumpers to get in and out of tight parking spaces.
