C6 or G35C???
Re: C6 or G35C???
I have no interest in Corvettes, but if only a TT is going to keep you in the G then you may as well get the C6. I don't think this engine is going to lend itself to reliable forced induction use any time in the near future. The C6 is the "smarter" buy for 1/4 mile times. Personally, I'd sooner get an Elise if I was going to go the pure performance route, but the practicality-to-expense ratio is too low for me. My G was the best available compromise.

Re: C6 or G35C???
A friend of mine bought a 2003 C5 Z06 a couple of months ago.
When he saw pics of the new C6 a couple of weeks ago, he was still happy with his purchase of the C5.
At first I thought he was just trying to defend his decision on buying the car.. but when I saw the car myself, I agreed.
This new vette has lost it's indentity. It'll sell better yeah, but that's cause it appeals more to the masses.
To me though, now it's just another car that has copied ideas for certain parts of it. It's no longer a vette.

Re: C6 or G35C???
I'm in total agreement in regards to the C6 styling...As a former fan of the 'Vette I am very disappointed...Of all the directions I thought the new exterior direction of the Corvette would go I never thought it would end up looking the way it does...I still strongly believe that eventually the Corvette will return to the car I used to like, but not this time with this new look

What's the weight on the C6?

3,100 lbs.

That's a heavy car to drive around specially in track.
<hr></blockquote>
If 3,100 lbs. is heavy, then our G35's at over 3,400 lbs. are completely obese. The Corvette is one of the lightest sports cars with 400+hp available. It's lighter than the Porsche 911 Turbo, and lighter than Ferrari 360 Modena, both of which have similar horsepower.
I drove my Z06 (about the same weight as the C6, maybe slightly lighter) on the track at Willow Springs, and it dominated the track, compared to all the other stock cars out there. Only modified cars could out-handle it, and even then, only some could. And very few cars on the track that day weighed under 3,000 lbs.

Just like the Stangs it's to front heavy tends to push on corners.
<hr></blockquote>
The Corvette is not the same as a Mustang. The Mustang Cobra is overweight, and front heavy. I agree with that. The Corvette hasn't been that way since 1982. The C5 has near perfect F/R weight balance, and again is relatively light at about 3,100 lbs. A Mustang Cobra weighs 3,700 lbs.!!!
The Corvette does not understeer or push at all - its very neutral with tons of throttle induced oversteer available whenever you want it. Compared to the Z06, my G35 tends to understeer and push in the corners a bit, a trait also shared with the 350Z.
One ride on a high speed track in a Z06 or C6 will quickly erase your false notion that Corvettes are only straight-line cars like the Mustang. Put it this way: The G35 is an excellent handler. The Z06 easily out-handles it by a good 10-15% margin.

If you want sheer and raw power I guess big block V8's are the way to go.
<hr></blockquote>
Just correcting a term here: techinically, the V-8 used in today's Corvette is a small block V-8, as is the new 6.0L used in the C6. The term "big block V-8" is used to describe the larger, stronger motors introduced in 1965, which started out at 396 cubic inches, then grew to 427 cubic inches in 1967, then to 454 cubic inches (7.4L) in 1970. These heavy but strong iron blocks are no longer used in passenger cars, but they still produce the largest derivative of these motors, the 502 cubic inch for boats, trucks, and as crate motors for custom muscle cars.

But I would sacrifice straight line power to a nimble handling car like a Porsche.
<hr></blockquote>
Actually, the GT2 weighs slightly MORE than the Z06 or C6, at 3,175 lbs. Pretty close, but its still heavier.
<blockquote><font class="small">In reply to:</font><hr>
but then again the GT2 cost almost twice as much as the vette.
<hr></blockquote>
Uh, the base price of a GT2 is $180,000. A Z06 stickers at $50k (and you can find them new discounted to $44k now since the C6 is coming out). That's almost 4 times the cost!!!
What will really be interesting is when the 2006 C6 Z06 model comes out, which will have 450-500hp, even lighter weight, better brakes, and should cost around $60k. Porsche will have to do some real explaining then as to why their car costs 3 times as much.

C6 is not for me....cabin too tight, but if you don't mind that go for it!
<hr></blockquote>
Cabin too tight? How do you know that? Nobody except auto journalists have been able to sit in a C6 that I'm aware of. But, the dimensions are very similar to the C5. The C5 is extremely roomy for a 2-seater - it's actually huge compared to most 2-seaters. I sat in a friend's Miata by comparison, and couldn't believe how small it felt. A 350Z also feels much smaller. As for fitting in a C5/C6, unless you're taller than 6'6", you'll fit fine in one.
