Serious question folks. If you had to choose between selling your G and getting a new C6 Vette or keeping your G and making it a twin turbo which would you do? After $10,000+ you'd have a G35 that was close in acceleration to the C6 but it would be non street legal and wouldn't handle as well. Or you could have a brand new C6 that runs mid to high 12's bone stock and is completely street legal.

Don't get me wrong I love my G but that new Vette sounds wicked as hell.

 

Get the C6. I've seen stats of 4.1 0-60 and 12.5 in the 1/4 plus that big azz 6.0 litre engine still get's as good or better gas mileage than the G.

The styling is just "ok" but the engine (even though it's a push-rod) is a monster...I'm waiting for the convertible version and then I might be considering the switch myself.

 

What's the weight on the C6? That's a heavy car to drive around specially in track. Just like the Stangs it's to front heavy tends to push on corners. If you want sheer and raw power I guess big block V8's are the way to go. Straight line power is just to much for any V6 to handle. But I would sacrifice straight line power to a nimble handling car like a Porsche. If you get the GT2 your packing about 450hp already, but then again the GT2 cost almost twice as much as the vette. To each his own I guess. That's just my .02 cents...

If you can deal without the back seats, the C6 is far superior. Actually, a Z06 C5 would have been mine instead of my G except I need back seats.

hahah I actually miss having no back seats. Cuz now I have to drive at lunch all the time =( The C6 with the Z51 package is supposed to be near identical in performance to the Z06. That coupled with the new nicer interior and keyless entry and push button start up and dual HUD is a rather nice car. I actually like the styling of the C6 over the C5. It's a little more aggressive and has a Viperesque fascia. Wish I could afford both. If I could afford a GT2 I would probably get my Aston Martin I love so much. I'm not rich so $50K is on the upper end of my scale that I would spend.

Oh and yes a 6 banger can keep up with a V8 in straight line acceleration it just depends on the motor and mods. Supra is the best example out there.

I personally don't care for the look of the new C6. Not just that, but you get 2 extra seats and have way better storage room in a G35. My vote..... go with a G35.

Absolutely not impressed by the new 'Vette's styling...That being said, these are two different animals...One's a luxury coupe, one's a true performance machine...I don't see the comparison

Good question. I have been wanting to get a G35C for my wife. However, not to close the door on an opportunity to buy a C6. I have a C5 now and it always puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it. The G35 does too but its different.

The new C6 is darn near perfectly balanced with an all aluminum small block and as mentioned here, the Z51 equipped C6 car will flat corner...to the equivalant of a Z06....which I thought pulled close to a 1G. I believe the weight is around 3100-3200 lbs. Which isn't heavy for a V-8 powered car with 400lb/ft of toruqe available right off idle.

I am still waiting to see how the C6 shakes out. I am more interested to see the C6 Z06 and then the twin turbo "Blue Devil".

There is still something to say for a 300hp V6 in that very sexy G35 body. I guess I want them both.

SnMDesignStudio, not trying to make a comparison just interested in what others might do given the opportunity to own one or the other. Obvisouly if you really needed the back seat it would be a no brainer. But I don't so it's going to come down to preference.

 

miket, when the C5 came out I wanted one sooo bad. I owned a 68' Vette at the time and was big into Vettes. I still am as it is my all time favorite muscle car. The C5 got played out to me when they started popping up all over the place. I was like damn there's a lot of Vettes on the road now. Of course the G35 is the same now. I've always been into the art of modifying my cars but I know the headaches that come with that and it would just be nice to have a flat out a$$ haulin machine that was completely street legal and warranty intact.
The G35 really doesn't have that much cargo space so that argument is moot in my opinion. My Evo had way more space than the G and more performance to boot.
But with all that being said I still have to see the C6 in person to know if it's meant to be. By the time this thing is out the new Supra might pop up. Being an ex-owner of a bad a$$ 97 TT Supra I love that car to death. But I'm pretty sure they are going to come out competing with the 350Z market which means less power and amenities for less money.
So many wonderful cars with so little money =(
Anyone think of getting the new Lotus Elise?? I have, test drove one too. That car is sick. But impractical for a daily driver.

 

I have to agree. They are totally 2 different animals. I gave up my 99 C5 for my 04 G. With all the mods I had on it I ran low 13s,but driving it all the time was a b*****. The stlying of the C6 needs some work it really does not look that much better than the C5 kinda like JDM in the nose, however the motor is the real deal give me my everyday driver that looks sexy.......Luv my G

 

I will have to see the C6 in person (and then drive one), but the C6 is the reason I have a G35. Let me explain.......I was going to buy a C5 Z06 (used, low mileage), but the C6 was on its way. I figured I buy this cool G35 to tide me over until the C6 Z06 was out and I could get a fair deal on one (probably early 2007 at the earliest) if I liked it. So, I'm patiently biding my time with G35 until I can see the C6 in person and drive one, but based on how I feel about it right now, it looks like I have about 3 more years with my G - not bad at all.
