Re: C6 or G35C???

My dad bought one of the first C5s when they came out in 96. We also have a C3 and a C4. Even he doesnt really like the looks of the C6, but he still wants a Z06 when they come out. I like the rear quarterpanel flare, that look a lot like our 69's. Hopefully they will put the package in a coupe or convertible this time.

25ft^3 of cargo space in the back is pretty good, even though it looks smaller than it is.

It all depends on if you need 4 seats or not, but resale of the G with TT couldnt be much better than if you just left it stock.

Re: C6 or G35C???

If you can get in a Vette easy and fit in it comfortably.. get it.

BUT... I'm 6'1" / 230lbs. I rented a C5 in San Diego for a few days while I was there on vacation, because I had thought about buying one. Getting in and out was not an easy task.

I hugged my G35 Coupe when I got home.

Well, I never said it was easy to get in and out of one. Just once you're in it, it's comfortable . I'm 5'9 and 150 lbs., and its not easy for me to get in and out of it either, especially when its in my tiny garage.

But, its a sports car that rides like 2 inches off the ground, with you practically sitting on the floor, and with large doors. Just the nature of the beast.

My neighbor is 6' and weighs 300 lbs. He buys minivans and SUV's, because they're the easiest for him to get in and out of.

Me? I love sports cars so much, I would go on a diet just so I could fit into the sports car I want to drive - not change my buying of a car to fit me.

I guess being average height and having normal weight has its advantages: I can fit comfortably in basically any car out there - except the backseat of a G35C.

Re: C6 or G35C???

perhaps old habits die hard, and so, some car's styling never get changed. for me, the vette's styling has got to go. hasn't it been at least 15 years now with that same body style. yeah, they changed the headlights a bit and maybe a few other body changes, but it's still the same car. the same goes with the acura nsx, same basic style but just revamped a bit to the change with the times.

don't get me wrong, the vette is a monster and i would definitely consider getting a vette if they changed the styling to something new. same goes with the nsx, the styling was nice back in the early 90's but it's got to go now and as far as the engine, there are so many cars nowadays that cost a fraction of nsx and will out-muscle it.

i used to own a 99 vette. i loved that car. i hate to say it, but i bought the g to fill the gap between my time with the the 99 vette and the new vette. i plan on getting one at the end of 2005. i do enjoy driving the g as well but the vette is so much fun to drive.

WHAT?!?! The C5 came out in 1997 with all new styling. That was 7 years ago, not 15. Its now being replaced by the C6, which has evolutionary changes to the styling. But the changes are substantial enough that you'll never confuse a C5 with a C6 (if you do, you're blind), and you won't mistake the C6 for anything other than a Corvette. That was the point of the new car. New, but familiar.

Sheesh, all you import lovers/domestic haters need some schooling on these fine pieces of machinery from Detroit (or Bowling Green) 15 years? - come on now. That was the C3 that was in production for almost 15 years (1968-1982) We're down to only 7 years now - making progress!

How come you don't bash Porsche for barely changing the 911's styling in the past 30 years?!?

Re: C6 or G35C???

i'm sorry dude, but you have to say that the recent corvettes have basically the same body style as the corvettes from years ago. the headlights have changed from the flip-up type and the spoilers and body work around the car has changed but thats bout it. i still remember watching scarecrow and mrs king back in junior high--if you're old enough to remember, but scarecrow used to drive a silver vette and that one looks pretty much the same to me as the new ones. i don't count headlights and basic body molding changes as real differences. thats just me. i'm sure the engine is more powerful compared to years ago, but the overall design looks hella the same to me.

and don't get me wrong, i would buy a vette in an instant if it appealed to me--who cares if it's an import or domestic car. for damn sure, i have always loved and still do love the classic vettes from the 60's. if you noted, i said the same stuff about the nsx too. i have no favorites.

by the way, my friend has a vette, and is it just me, but is the whole body fiberglass or molded plastic or what!?!?!? i don't mean to insult anyone but just my observation.

Re: C6 or G35C???

Coming from guy that just sold a 730HP C5 Vert w/ every possible mod I say it still depends on what you want. Do you need 4 seats? Do you want a more luxurious car or a badazz car? As for performance the C6 will just plain kill the G. Throw a filter, exhaust(headers, etc.), and a good tune and you will have the C6 pushing 450+hp easily. Throw a cam in and forget it. I really don't even compare the two. To me the G would be a daily driver and the C6 would be my weekend car. I am waiting for the C6 Z before I pick one up. As for looks the C6 does not look much different than the C5 which dissapointed me as well as many more @ corvetteforum.com. Have'nt seen one in person so I can't say much more. I do know you can get Navi and other options on the C6 which are not available on the C5.

Well, part of the problem may be I'm not sure which model Corvettes you are comparing. I *think* you're comparing the new C6 with the C5 when your comments are geared towards saying the styling hasn't changed much. Because the styling differences between the C5 (1997-present) and C4 (1984-1996) are pretty substantial . I agree that the C6 is not a radical change in styling from the C5. Many have criticized the C6 already because of that, although I don't think any criticism is fair until you've seen production cars on the road. I think when you do a side-by-side comparison between the C6 and C5, the differences will be more than most realize right now.

We're talking about styling anyway, which is entirely subjective. People have different tastes. And those tastes even change with time. I happen to like the look of the C6. When the C5 came out in '97, I wasn't impressed at all with it - thought it looked too much like an RX-7 in the front and side. It wasn't until about 3 years ago that I actually started to like the looks of the C5 - it grew on me. Now I love the looks of it. I think the C6 will be the same way for a lot of people. Once they see some on the road, and get a feel for the presence it makes, they will like it more as time goes on. The C6 actually has a lot of interesting styling features - most of them are subtle though - things you don't notice until you stare at it for a while, and then you realize there's a lot going on with it.

Part of the styling constraints with the Corvette, is that it is intended to look familiar. Every new model must immediately be identifiable as a Corvette - no mistaking it. It has to be new, yet unmistakably Corvette. And I think that's what you've got with the C4 to C5 to C6. There is a common styling theme among all of them. But that's part of what keeps the heritage going.

In terms of styling, classic vettes are my favorites. My personal favorite is a '58-'60, with the side coves, and big chrome toothed grill. My second favorite is the '70-'72. I used to own a 1970 Stingray - I never tired of looking at that car, and it always turned heads like there was a naked lady going down the street. Those curves tend to do that

Yes, every Corvette has had fiberglass or sheet molded compound (SMC) body panels, since the very first one in 1953. It's another Corvette trademark, and part of the history and heritage. It's why they're sometimes nicknamed "plastic fantastics." Actually, many of the styling and curves, especially the bodies of the Stingrays, could not physically be done with steel body panels - you can't get metal to bend that way and look right. So fiberglass gave the designers much more flexibility with styling. It is also lightweight, strong, and never rusts or dents.

good point...i didn't see it that way before. i'm just tired of the overall design(i.e. long overall body, rear design). just my take on it. but you're definitely right, a vette is alway a vette and there's no mistaking that. perhaps thats why its popularity has endured. so, i concede to your argument : )
