Order from Grubbs Infiniti. They are accepting VPP on anything in stock, and will ship to you for free.

All of ours were built in Japan. They just ordered one to your specifications. Shouldn't be a problem getting your down payment back. Unless they had you sign something stating that the deposit is non-refundable then I wouldn't worry about it. Why not call up to the dealership and ask a different sales rep? "Yeah I wanted to order a g35 coupe...are down payments refundable?"
I know when I was searching for my coupe in December of 02, many people had put down payments on the car and their financing fell through...so it goes to the next person and down payment is refunded. Shouldn't be a big deal.

I think Grubbs offer is for in-stock only, but they have something like 75 coupes, so you have a decent chance of finding the combo you want, plus shipping is supposed to be no more than $600.
The only problem with shipping a car into California is you need to go get and pay for a smog check even if it only has 5 miles on the odometer, then go to the DMV to register it and pay sales tax. You won't pay tax to the out of state seller.
