wash and wax thoroughly
dry off everything fully by driving it around (even dry off the brakes with some light long braking to heat them up)
leave car in gear or levae it in park if you have an automatic.
don't leave the handbrake or E-brake on.
change the oil
change the coolant fluid (drain it, not just top it off)
don't use a cover like a plastic tarp that doesn't breathe, use something more porous.
clean out all your crap from the car.
wipe down and clean the interior thorouhgly.
clean and condition the leather seats (they'll dry up over time and crack when you get back in)
put a rag in both the intake and the exhaust pipes so things don't crawl up in there while you leave it in storage.
disconnect the battery. (you'll still have to jump it next year when you drive it again)
air up the tires higher than normal expecting that they will lose air over time in storage. this will keep them from getting sidewall damage by going flat. (go to just about the highest safe amount of PSI)

lastly try not to store it in a damp place or in the sun or under a tree, etc...

I think I covered everything.

When you get back in it top off all fluids, bring some fuel with you as most may be gone from volatility. make sure tires are up to par. check spark plugs and squirt some oil into them or just replace the spark plugs at worst.

i feel like I'm forgetting something so anyone else wanna add on?

this works fine for short term storage but over 6 months the rest I've noted is necessary.

Do not forget to add Gas Stabilizer to your full tank. Drive for at least 1/2 hr with the stabilizer before you park the car.
