I remember seeing the coupe at the New York Auto Show when it debuted. The car was silver and the headlight housing were gloss black. Some people said that it was from the reflection of the ceiling (which was black) just making it look that way, but I check from several angles and have pics to prove that they were painted black.

As for production versions, they all look the same to me, no matter which color the car is painted.

What did your dealer say about it? Did they have any further information?

They didn't know either, figures. They had a silver coupe with the gunmetal/black housings and then a black one with the chrome ones! I pointed out the difference, they didn't have an answer...

 

man, you guys must be wacked out.they all should have reflective gunmetal housing. it just depends on what type of reflection the housing is getting. Mine sometimes look chromish, sometimes a gunmetal, and sometimes black.

 

Ya, I think it's exactly what GG35 said. The color and contrast of the various car colors and the reflective quality of the plastic shell over the gunmetal housing create that illusion. Hey Wicked, if you can prove that it is possible to get black housings on a stock G without doing a mod I'll by you a beer at our next G35 meet. :-D

Agreed. I already posted 2 pics of my same car with the same housings looking like black in one pic, chrome in the other.
