2005 Ford Mustang vs G35

Just throwing this one out there.

Is the new Mustang '05 pretty much going to dust our G35s?

I don't think the Mustang's V-6 version will, but the GT on the other hand...

The latest Car and Driver said 1/4 mile 14.1 - 15.5 so I'm guessing the GT is expected to somewhat match us.

It's really going to dust us in the looks department because you can get factory spinners!!!!! What the hell was Ford thinking? First price it under 20 then offer spinners. I think it's a great design but they should've kept it somewhat exclusive/limited.

You cant keep the Mustang exclusive. I also belive the spinners are only available for the v6 wheels. I dont think you can consider it full out spinners either. But anyways the new mustang is very nice car and i cant wait until SVT brings out their Cobra version of the car.

The new Mustang GT should have better straight-line performance than the G coupe (300 HP vs. 280 HP). But I think the SVT version (whenever that appears) will make a very compelling alternative to the G coupe given that it will probably have close to 400 HP and cost about the same as the G. I'm not saying I'd switch (I love my G coupe), but so far my impressions of the 2005 Mustang is very favorable.

I agree that it's going to be faster in a straight line but that's where any advantage ends. The Cobra is the same price as a loaded G and it will smoke it in a straight line. But in an overall comparison the Cobra got beat by the G in braking, handling, fuel economy, ride comfort, ergonomics, features & ammenities, styling, and interior noise. It's all about what you want (straight-line speed or a great car).

Argument is biased. If you ask BMW 330ci owner he will say the same thing. G35 is now faster than us in straight line but handling, build quality etc etc is better.

Now you ask a mustang owner he will say our car is cheaper and cheaper to mod and now our cars looks a lot better ...etc etc.

Btw I heard a moded mustang (like an SVT) handles very well. Its just an urban legend people pass down because the stock mustang is shitty.

I don't think a 330Ci handles better than a Gcoupe. I think the Gcoupe has the edge in handling. And as for build quality- BMW, in general, has more reliability problems than Infiniti. I'd have to say the 330Ci doesn't even have build quality over the Gcoupe. The only thing the 330Ci has is maybe nicer interior styling, and even that's subjective.

The numbers show that the G35 has better skid pad and slalom numbers than the 330ci, which typically means it has better handling.

The R1 is out, and its a motorcycle, and its a friking rocket, but im assuming he was being overly sarcastic. Im sure the SVT-Cobra would smoke a Gcoupe in any race, any day, with good drivers behind both wheels. A current SVT-cobra would beat a G-coupe...were talking about M3 speeds here.

Not an urban legend. A stock 'stang handles like sh^t. You can however fix that pretty cheaply.

Re: 2005 Ford Mustang vs G35

Every year the Mustang is supposed to be getting better...but does it ?

I recently had a 2003 Mustang V6 as a rent-a-car and it was a total piece of junk. Nothing about it was of the quality of the G. I was driving down a steep hill and downshifted it from drive to 3rd and the car did a 130 degree spin and ran me up a curb. I retuned it the next morning.
Now a V8 Mustang will be faster than a G, but the car itself is junk.

Re: 2005 Ford Mustang vs G35

When I was refering to build quality I was referring to type of material used for interior. There is just abundant amount of low grade plastic used in the G35 compare to other luxury cars.
I quote "The plasticky interior is mediocre by luxury standards, but it's hard to quibble when a well-equipped G35 can be had for around $33,000." from CNN. (CNN might not be a reliable source for performance review but this is a pure comestic review.)
You can find my quote here by clicking on G35 from this link
http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lists/car/

However, you are entirely missing the point of my argument. My point is saying his comments are biased, it goes the same way if you ask the question on a 330ci forum. I am not putting the G35 down. However, since this is a G35 I am expecting biased opinions. After all its hard to point faults to your own 50k invesment (assume financing, gas and maintence), that will be questioning your own judgement.

BTW here is an article G35 vs. Mustang Cobra vs. Rx-8
