Re: Nismo bumper & wheels, pics

I posted the headlight modifications and information in a post earlier last month in the coupe general section. The grille modification is in the technical and modification section right now. 6-8 hours for the headlights and about 3 hours for the grille. I am happy to hear you like the results of my work. Total cost of both the mods were $10 plus my labor.

Hey Joe! Nice car! :-) So you lowered your car, even with the Nismo? Wow! You know, I wanted to get some Tein coilovers, but oh my gosh, I've had so man problems with my bumper, as is, without even lowering it!
Have you had any problems yet. With stock height, I've actually gotten out of my car to see how much clearance I have on curbs and speed bumps. It barely clears. Let me know if you haev any problems. And how much do the springs lower the car?

Re: Nismo bumper & wheels, pics

I bought the bumper from David at 350zforums.org. The price of the bumper was $399 plus shipping. The bumper fit about 90% perfect, there was only a very small amount of work that needed to be done around the passenger headlight. I own a body shop so my standards are very high. There was a medium amount of finish work that needed to be done; edges, blocking, and priming. Nothing out of the oridinary for a fiberglass bumper.

The eibachs lower the car 1.1" in the front and 1.0" in the back. I have a lot of experience driving lowered cars, every car I have owned in the past five years has been lowered.

The wheels were $2550 plus shipping from Iforged. Three piece, they were overstocked wheels thats why I got a discount. The tires were about $1150, Bridgestone Potenza's, got the hook up on that also. Total was $3800. The lips are 3.5" deep.

drooool.... awsome job man! i love the nismo kit... if i had the money, i would get it right now...

just a question... have you thought of painting the "lip" part (also the edge of the two front air holes) on the bumper black or graphite grey, sort of dark color? like one in the nismo catalog... do you think it be hard to do that?

It would be very easy to do that. I could just tape around that body line and spray black inside, but I thought that I may have too much black especially on the front end; grille, mesh, the openings on the bumper, headlights, wheels. I think I like it the way it is, I did think a lot about it though.

Do you have a side profile shot of the car? I want to see how low the front bumper is compared to the side skirts. I'm scared of getting this bumper painted, because some of the coupes I've seen with kits don't match the paint well. Are you going to get the splash guards?

Joe...you did an excellent job with your car...How hard was it to match the stock infiniti color? did you change the lights out in your clearance strip or is it the camera that shows the different color?

Re: Nismo bumper & wheels, pics

It was very hard to match the stock color. It has black, silver, blue-red, blue-green and binder in the color. My formula however was not right on it was too light, too blue, and not yellow enough. The only yellow that was in it was the side tone of the black. I spent a couple of hours tinting the color, but the hardest part was the side angle of the color. The color always seemed to flop a different shade on the side tone; bluer, more yellow, lighter, or darker it was very hard to determine what to add and how much. There is more that goes into painting than a lot of people think. The color turned out very close, good enough for now. The bulbs in the clearance lights are stock.

Joe, thanks for the reply...once again an outstanding job!!!!!
A close friend of mine used to restore older corvettes so I know how hard it can be to match metallic finishes...Its great to see someone put so much effort into something and have it turn out right on the money!!!! keep us posted on how the paint holds up on the new bumper...I'm curious if the harder surface will cause more chipping than the flex bumper we all have...thanks again P.S. nice wheels too ....2old4this
