I was driving through a road constriction site and I bottomed out

Here is my dilemma… The pictures you see of the undercarriage shows to carnage the sewer cap did to that piece of metal under the car. The piece of metal I am talking about is the one that runs the length of the car horizontally right before the rear suspension begins. What is this piece called? How much does it cost? Does it need to be replaced? Thanks

PS: yes I am going after the construction company because the cap should have been flagged with orange paint.

The Problem....

That piece is called a "tunnel stay". From the looks of it, it doesn't look too bad. You can probably just get away with just bending it back. Lots of people scrape or hit that piece.

You were driving around in dirt and didn't look where you were going? I would have been crawling through that street, and would have seen that a mile away

If you look at the first pic I was coming from the left of it heading right (so this is a side shot) and it blended in from the direction I was heading. The lip of the cap was on the backside when it drops off. It was difficult to see! The guy behind me in his car did the same thing as me.

Anyway thanks for sharing with me how well you can spot sewer caps in the road. You must have nice vision!

damn how did you not see the difference in the level of ground.... 5mph max!!!!!

I ran with mine over a parking lot border. It was damaged really bad, because i had to change my front brake rotors and blew both my front tires.
And it happened within the first week afther i got it.

I think it's just some kind of support to brace other sub frame assemblies or suspension components to the body.

Yup that is the part or looks like it. Or I should say looks kinda like my bent one. HaHa I would have spotted it but the street had ton of construction $hit going on not to mention a girl to my left jogging in white spandex on.

thats horrible what hapened but lemme tell you. i work for a construction company right now and they are really not gona give 3 ****s. and as for miami, u wont get a penny...maybe its diff where you are but down here people are a s s h o l e s and dont give a damn

Thats right where the frame is, I doubt you bent it at all but that looks like the subframe. Go after em, get it up on a lift and then have them cut you a check and get somethin aftermarket with the money.

damn that really sucks. BTW, you won't get nothing from the construction company. It's your job as a driver, when you see construction or for this matter, a dirt road, you need to take extra caution.

You should see my undercarriage. My car is pretty low to the ground. That piece you're talking about is almost gone on my car haha.

My underbody plastic cover is actually ziptied to my sway bar because those brackets have been so beat up.
