The GT-8 was powered by the 3.5L, not the 2.5L.

what is a GT8? So the Sedan in Japan is called Skyline too? I thought only the coupe is named skyline.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that the GT-8 only operates in "8-speed mode" when you slide the lever over into the manual shift gate. Otherwise it would behave like your average stepless CVT when the lever is in D as this is when a CVT is most efficient. You actually lose some of the efficiency a CVT affords when you switch it over into "manual mode" which simply mimics the actions of a conventional auto box.
