my key is jammed in my car

i usually search for answers here, but i can't seem to find much on my problem.

my key won't come out of the ignition, it locks up, has this happened to anyone?

does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to get new keys made / ignition changed?

any help would be awesome...don't really want my car stolen

thanks

did you try pushing it in, then turning counter clockwise? or turn it to the on or acc position then turning counter clockwise while pushing it in?

Is it AT? Make sure the car is all the way in park. The shift lock sensor could be out of whack. I had this happen in an FX.

i've tried turning it in EVERY which way for about 15 minutes.

no, my steering isn't locked. my car's in park but i'll try that again.

i don't think it's under warranty anymore.

Push the gear shifter all the way forward, like you wanted to push it beyond park.

^ I'd take it in for questioning during your next oil change.

Did you happen to do any work on the car that involved removing the center console?

This happened to me on a Chrysler, and it was the transmission interlock (?) (not the ignition, and no new keys were needed). They repaired that (it requires you to be in park to start the car and allows you to remove the key). My problem was that I could turn the ignition off but the key was stuck in accessories mode, so I had to disconnect the battery until I could take it in.
