Not happy with G35 Paint!
Not happy with G35 Paint!
I have had my coupe for about 4 months and i have enough scratches to think i had it for 2 years. Im not sure if its cause i have black or my luck sux and all the rocks just are attracted to my car. What are your thoughts? I love the g35 tho!!

They're called hairline scratches (and swirl marks). Unfortunately, black reveals these imperfections the most. Next time you wax your car, pickup a bottle of 3M Swirl Marks Remover and use it on your paint, then wax it. Also, try not to use crappy towels when drying your car (after you wash it). You should only use high quality micro-fiber towels...a California Water Blade is a nice investment too.

Re: Not happy with G35 Paint!
I kinda agree.. I had a black MX6 for 10 years.. The paint on that car was excellent.. there was very little paint ware.. And the MX6 was notorious for paint problems... I guess I got a good one, well that and my cousin owns a detail shp and showed me many of his tricks to keep on top of the paint. eriously though people wondered if I had it repainted and I didn't. The black paint texture of the coupe doesn't look as good as my MX6 did.. but it is not bad none-the-less.

Oh... beware of the Water Blade on the black car (sorry Mr. E).. my friend got one and it worked great when new.. but after a while it started scrathing the clear coat. You could see where he had used it all over the car when in direct sunlight.

Fellas I definitely with you on this one. My black disgusts me. The only time i like it is in the nite, on shady days or after I waxed it. but after a regular wash all you see are scratches swirls and its like why did I get this color. In my case it was this color or 4 months so thats why for me anyway.

Yea i when its about 9am to 4pm i cant stand to look at my car cause it brings out all the hair lines scrathes but at sunset and night it looks awsome. And i think i found out what is causing the real scratches on the top of my doors and spoiler. I went outside tonight and there was a damn cat walking ontop of my car. Better run kitty!!

as much as i love the G.i have to say the paint job is suck big time.seem like it's too thin, too easy to get scratch, chip and flake.but that's just me...
Re: Not happy with G35 Paint!
I'm not very happy with the paint at all. Yes I know black shows everything and yada yada yada but I take care of my car no rain no salt no snow. She gets waxed once a month I mean what else is there to do? I guess I'll just deal with it.
Re: Not happy with G35 Paint!
I disagree with all of you. The paint quality was superb when I bought it from the dealer. The black shone like no other. If you care to keep it waxed all the time, garaged, and have a California duster lying around at all times. Your car will be perfect. Avoid driving your G on freeways that are known rock traps.
After 5 months, I don't have a single swirl mark. And only 1 chip of my front bumper. Please don't blame the car. It will only look as good as you keep it. Finally, if you want to protect your hood, invest in the full 3M clear bra. It's pretty pricey, but I'd say its worth the money.

Re: Not happy with G35 Paint!
I'm gonna have to agree too guys. The G paint is lacking alot in my opinion, though I still love my car. That is the reason I didn't get it in black. Though I must also say LR doesn't hide the swirls too much either. In defense of the G paint I did speak to a friend of mine whom owns a body shop and he said ALOT of new cars car experiencing paint issues because of the stiffer environmental laws passed recently that prevent them from using more harsh chemicals to harden the paint.
Another thing I might suggest for those of you (including me) who get free car washes at the dealer when you get your oil changed, DON'T let them wash your car. I noticed a big increase in swirl marks after I started letting them wash it. I am horribley **** when I wash it and always use soft clean towels. Well one day I was at the dealer and decided to stay while they did the oil change.
I sat and watched the car wash guys wash the cars after they were done with service and was horrified. First of all they were using a BRUSH! I don't car how soft it is, a brush is still a brush and can cause abbrasions. Second they barely rinsed the brush off after each wash and the same for the towels. So the last guys dirt and grit from his SUV are still on there when they go to wash your G!
I'm like "No wonder I have swirl marks d@mn it!" I then went to the Service Advisor and requested no car wash after the oil change and never have since. So beware guys of your dealers practices when getting your "free" "quality" car wash. Peace.

Re: Not happy with G35 Paint!
I noticed more chips in the first month, then I have since. It seems like it gets a lot better after sitting in the sun, in a 100 degree weather. I got two chips on the bumper in the first month or so, and none since. For those in Florida or California, let your car sit in the sun for a few hours each day. For all those unlucky ones, you'll have to wait until summer
