Re: I tried 100 octane fuel today and ...
It just occurred to me that given the higher combustion temperature of higher octane gas, it's possible it might be slightly better in very hot climates. I don't know what the weather's like where you are (obviously it's quite cold in much of the US right now), but you might want to try it again just for the heck of it on a hot summer day. It might still make no difference, but if it was ever going to, it would probably be then.

That's exactly right. Unless you can actually utilize the higher octane, it's not really going to make a differene. If you had FI, then the higher octane would make a muc more noticeable difference. In fact if you had a turbo and was boosting really high, then you wuold definitively notice the difference.

Here's an article about high octane fuel.

Higher octane fuel can actually decrease power slightly, if it's not needed. If you're boosting then higher octane fuel will allow you to run more boost before any detonation may happen, but on most N/A applications (other than ones with very high compression or other major work) running the lowest octane that doesn't ping/knock will result in the most power. It may not be enough to measure, but it's supposed to burn better. I can't remember all the little details, but I'm sure there's a lot of articles about it on the net.

I've heard this as well. but I figured it would be the same for 100 octane at the pump. Not completly sure of the difference. They are both 100 octane low lead. I've seen guys buying the stuff at airports before in gas cans. Perhaps they have some souped up lawnmowers and weedwackers.

Airplane fuel has deicing agents in it that aren't designed for automotive use. That fuel also is meant to be run at a certain rpm, rather than all over the rpm range, like in an automobile. It'll still work, but it's not the same as a normal high octane automotive fuel.

what about octane boost? i understand that our ECU are desighned for a certon octane and wont give us performance boost but what do all think about it on F/I engines and such is it a gimic or does it really boost ur octane?

Re: I tried 100 octane fuel today and ...
The change is so small it doesn't do much at all. a single bottle in a full tank may raise your octane rating from like 90 (say you got a bad tank of 91 octane) to 90.5-91.0. Other options would be something like a gallon of toulene mixed in with a tank of gas at lower ratios. Toulene has a rather high octane rating (114-117 IIRC?) and can be purchased by the gallon at many hardware stores in the paint thinner section. I wouldn't recommend this, but just saying it's out there...

Re: I tried 100 octane fuel today and ...
People - DO NOT put avgas in your car. LL stands for Low Lead (as I am sure many of us know), and hte lead will KILL your sensors FAST.
I am also a pilot, and this is the gas that we use in the piston engines. The 100LL or 100 (full lead content that can be found in Mexico) fuel also has gas scavengers which, if I am not misaken, work at above 360 degrees F cylinder head temps (CHTs) and below a certain cutoff (like 460, I am not sure here). The piston airplanes (almost all of them) have a redline of 2500-2700 rpm. The conceivably higher temps achived in a car at higher rpms may, and probably will, cause higher temps, and thus no lead scavenging. lead scavenging or not, the lead WILL damage your sensors. So NOT use it.
