Riding Shotgun In The G35 Coupe

I rode shotgun in my friends dad's G35 Coupe today(he was borrowing it since his own car was in the shop).... his dads car is the exact same car as mine.. color and all, only his is has no Nav and doesn't have any mods.

This was the first time I'd ever riden in a G35 Coupe that I wasn't driving and I must say, the G35 interior looks a lot uglier from the passengers side, and the door-sill seems much higher on that side. I guess that's because I have my drivers seat pumped up a little higher(passengers side is not height-adjustable).

The car seemed a whole lot less impressive overall from the passengers side. It seemed slower too, which is strange, because usually a car seems faster from the passengers seat since you don't realy know or expect it when the driver hits the gas hard, so you don't brace for the burst of acceleration like you would as the driver.

Same here too. I rode shotgun in mine and didn't notice anything odd. Albeit, I have an 06.

It's just placebo effect.

Maybe mine is just WAY better than his.

I've still never ridden shotgun in my own car.... wasn't planning on doing so anytime soon either.

No, but seriously... I noticed that the whole gauge cluster housing and steering wheel area looks realy odd from the passengers side. It's not smooth or technologically advanced looking, or ergonomically correct-looking at all.

it only seems slower because, a. you arent the one controlling the speed/watching for cops/watching the speed b. because the car does a good job of handling the road, i can easily say that going 110 in the g is about the equivalent of going 80 in my friend's old *** suv.

if yours is moded thats probably why your friend's seemed slower, I don't know about the height thing, only time I've sat in the passengers seat was while cleaning that side of the dash.

That part of your equation does not seem to hold true based on my experiences up to this point with just about every other car that I've owned and riden shotgun in while allowing another friend to drive it. When you drive a car, it usually seems slower(to me at least) because you know when to expect bursts of speed since you are the one manipulating the controls to make it go faster at that moment, and your body expects it to happen so you brace for it.. plus you gauge a lot of the speed based on the speedometer as a driver since you can see it. As a passenger, you don't really know what to expect... you're just along for the ride, and the acceleration and braking in most cases seems slightly more accentuated because you aren't tensing up for a speed burst, so it almost snaps your neck back and catches you off guard.

My performance mods should not be significant enough to result in a big speed difference between the 2 cars... all I have done for power mods are a Z-tube, K&N air filter, and motordyne spacer, while his car is completely stock.

The only other things that I can think of which would make his car seem slower might be that while I'm in the passengers seat, his car is pulling an extra persons body weight along with the car... whereas when I drive my car, I'm usually driving it to work alone(less weight). He also doesn't run synthetic oil(I'm sure there is almost no noticeable difference from this), and although his car only has 9K miles on it... they are very very hard miles. Other than that.. his car sits for long periods of time(like a month or 2 at a time since his dad travels around the country all the time), while mine is driven like 3-5 times a week.

Good! Now your friends don't ever have to drive since you hate being a passenger. lol

pretty much true. the 05+ interior is so much better. I rode shot gun in my car before and it looked great to me. I like how the 05+ has the clock and ac display all in the one area.

I know for a FACT that it's a lot less fun to be the passenger.
