Just read a thread on this not to long ago. One member's dealer on that post found the bolts on the rails loose which was his problem with popping.
Mine doesnt pop...so what else to say.

On my G, what's really annoying is a damn rubbing sound when i tilt/Untilt my sunroof. I've had the dealer oil/lube it several times but after X amount of miles the sound always comes back. Anybody else have this problem? and or have a solution?

Yup...me too. What I used was pure silicon spray lub on the rubber.
Sprayed a lot on a rag and wiped it into the rubber.
That was about 6 or so months ago. Just starting to hear that sound again. Time to reapply.

Any updates on a fix for this? I had my 2005 G35 M6 in for this and the dealer lubed the sunroof with something but the popping returned with a vengeance. I plan on taking it in again shortly and will have them check the sunroof rails and bolts.

I also have this problem and posted it up on another thread. When I brought mine into the dealership for them to look at they denied me service claiming it was my aftermarket suspension being stiffer than stock causing the sunroof to pop. I'm tempted to take the roof apart myself and see what's up. A few people in that thread claimed that the hardware had come loose and when tightened back up it no longer made the noise.

Sadly this is a chronic problem. Even the stock sport suspension will make the sunroof pop. My 07 6MT coupe had this issue since I got the car - it started popping within 1-3 months of owning the car. The dealer immediately replace my sunroof, which diminished the amount of pops, however, it continued doing it randomly.

I had the dealer readjust the new sunroof because they said it would make it go away once and for all at last, but it never really did.

My fix: I got a G37S - not a single pop. The 36% stiffer chassis definitely comes in handy. I truly hope someone finds a fix for the popping on the G35's because it's an amazing car, but I couldn't live with all that popping and the rattles...

By the way, check for threads on GT-Spec braces, some people claim that after installing some of these braces, chassis twisting disappears, which makes the popping go away - I never got to try this.

My $0.02.

Quote: Its just due to the frame design and the stiff suspension, the springs are stiff and don't compress enough so the frame twists causing the sunroof to pop. Happens on my car all the time too
ahh finally
after driving my car for 3 months, i was wondering what the hell was going on.
i suspected its because the car couldnt bend when it went up ramps at an angle..

is this popping also sound like a "thud" or like rubber hitting metal? If so, this is exactly the noise I have on my 06 AT.

happens more often when it is hot oustide!

Does the dealer charge for this type of maintenance? I am at 43k.

^^^If it is an 06 and you have 43k it should still be under bumper to bumper warranty. If you do still have bumper to bumper, they should fix it for free.

Does anyone know exactly what bolts people are saying they are tightening to resolve this issue?

The sun roof rails. Good luck getting to it. You have to remove your headliner.

Not sure why the G has so many loose bolts. Previously the dealership had to retorque my rear axle bolts. And Back in Aug 2010, they retorqued the rails. I'm guessing for 2011, it's going to be the lug nuts.

Well I got some work to do. Good thing I found all these threads as it confirms that I'm not the only one with this exact sound. I thought my body panels had broken apart or cracked in the body LOL
