Its just due to the frame design and the stiff suspension, the springs are stiff and don't compress enough so the frame twists causing the sunroof to pop. Happens on my car all the time too

I had the same problem and the dealership replaced my sunroof rail. I just got it done last week, and haven't had any problems so far. Maybe you have the same issue....the service manager I talked to said it was a fairly well documented problem.

i know the noise you mean, but mine only seems to do it when I have the visor (or whatever you call it) back. That or I can only hear it then. I just figured it was hitting against something.

I'm not sure if my problem is the same as the one you're having. I hear a pop when the roof starts to come down before it slides into the back. Same goes for when I tilt it up and down. I wonder what is required for a problem like this to be issued a TSB. Since it's a common issue shouldn't there be a TSB for it?

I've had the same problem ever since I got my 06. I usually hear the sunroof pop when I'm going up or down a driveway or parking garage at an angle.

I mentioned this to the service manager at my local Infiniti a couple of weeks ago and he said that it's a known problem that is due to the stiffness of the car and that they can't do anything about it to make the problem permanently go away.

I've just learned to live (and expect) the popping sound.

Good luck.

Your talking about the popping noise right? Its not like the sunroof pops out? Well I have that noise in my car as well.. For the dealer fixing it.. how did they fix it or explained to you in the way they were fixing it? I've always heard it when i got up a drive way at an angle.

I went to the dealer for the same issue and they are also replacing my sunroof assembly (I'm assuming this includes the rails). My car makes the popping sound on driveways, and during any other situation that involves the car not being evenly on the ground. Lately even when I turn and there's a slight change in road height I can hear this sound...it's extremely annoying and it's not like it's easy to ignore.

Unfortunately, the part is in back order and they have no idea as to when they will be replacing it. I just believe it's rather unpleasant to purchase a $40k car and have to put up with this type of rattles and noises...

UPDATE: So they replaced the rails on my sunroof, which fixed the issue for merely 2-3 weeks. It's starting to come back, though now it's more random and harder to duplicate; however, I just hear it happening more and more often. We'll see what they say when I show up this weekend to document the issue once again.

It rarely happened to me on my 04 for the first couple of years.....
Then, last Oct. we moved into a new home. The driveway has a pretty steep slope off the end onto the road. The first time I backed out into the street my sunroof made a pop/knock sound....at first I thought it was a shock/spring in the rear that was sticking....but now it makes more sense that it is the flexing of the sunroof.....Still sux....but I can live with it.

I can handle the one "pop" much better than the buzzing rear deck in the hot days of summer...which I luckily didn't encounter this season.

People think I am crazy for getting a base model Sorry to hear about all the troubles some of you are having to deal with. Creaking and rattling noises drive me nuts. I have fixed all of my rattles through the years thankfully.
