stupid question 30k service

sorry for bringing up a topic thats been discussed a millions times, but i'm still confused and i can't find the answer :/

i just brought my '04 coupe in for the 30k service, they said it includes everything in the manual and the transmission flush/drain?( i don't know the difference) all this they quoted 558.81 at frontier infiniti in santa clara.

they also asked if i wanted to do an optional service which includes the transmission flush, power steering flush, brake flush, and fuel flush. the service guy says there's a difference between this transmission flush and the one included in the 30k service ...i don't know what he's talking about. all together he quoted $1045...

obviously i said no to that.. is there a difference between the optional flush and the one included in the service? i'm so confused

all you need is oil change, rad flush/refill, trans flush/refill, rear diff flush/refill, in cabin filter, and intake filter (if you are oem still) have them price that out you should be able to get all that done for about 450

every dealer charged differently because they all do different packages...some charge more because they add in more services

yea i ended up only doing the 30k..$560 is still a joke :/

now i'm worried whether i need to do the full transmission flush or w/e (i still don't get the difference between a transmission service and transmission flush) and the brake flush, the service guy really got to me after telling me how much i really need to do those and now i'm all paranoid and driving to work today my brakes feel so soft.. hahaha maybe its just me

Well i would def do a trans flush at 50,000 miles being our at trans fluid is synthetic, but a brake flush should be done once every 2 years, only because brake fluid is hydroscopic which means it attracts moisture. You need to keep moisture away from all the brake components(which i will not get into this here) and from the abs pump and its components.

A trns service is just draining out the fluid in the pan,a trans flush is replacing all the trans fluid which means a flush will replace roughly about 11 qts of fluid, the difference is a trans service is a waist of money due to the fact about only 3 quarts of tranny fluid is actually replaced.

thats funny you say that...didnt know changing out fluids like the radiator, trans, and rear diff were just a profit scheme...check your fluids and chime back in...i did mine at 30k and they were needing to be changed, but you know the saying, 'an ounce of prevention...'

yes that saying is true. but really its overkill to do a flush of your trans, diff and radiator at 30K, unless you're driving it like a truck. it's not even included in the manual.

to the OP, just get an oil/filter change, air filter and check/top off your brake, coolant and clutch fluids if they need to. if you need to put a lot in your brake and clutch, then something might be wrong and have them check it, otherwise you're good.
