So how many mile can we go if the empty tank light comes on?
I guess this question is more toward people who can't afford $30 full tank of gas.

Considering with this cold weather I'm getting about 12mpg, I'd say no more than 30 miles or so. I think the reserve is 3 gallons, right? You really don't want to get to the bottom of the tank and suck the remaining sludge up! Put $5 in when you can, you don't need to fill it every time.

Whether you put $5 in 6 times a week or $30 at once, it's still 30 bucks. Driving those last 30 miles before filling up is not going to save you any money at all. My buddy used to do this - I don't get it...

 

i alway fill it up before or right after the light came on.better safe than sorry.to answer your question.i dunno...

 

If you cant afford the gas - why buy the car?

i fill up whenever i see good gas prices, although i need to start filling up at my own gas station once in a while

 

Buy a Prius.

 

it takes 5 - 8 years of owning a Prius before you save any money on gas. You could buy a Sentra or Corolla.

It's about 3 gallons left after the light comes on. I've tested this many many times.

 

Every car is probably a little different, so the best way to find out is as follows:

1) Wait for the orange Fuel light to come on.
2) Fill up at the next opportunity. Write down how many gallons it took to fill up.
3) Subtract this from 20 (our tank capacity), and this is how much fuel you had left.

My car has been averaging around 20 MPG, and I have had between 3 and 4 gallons left. So I know I can go at least 60 miles after the light comes on (it also helps to zero your tripometer).

Knowing this info has saved me from running out of gas on numerous occassions. Have fun!

Has anybody here actually RAN OUT OF GAS in their G?

I'm asking cuz one time I ran it up to 400 miles on 1 tank of gas (just to see if I could get it to 400) and when I filled it up it still had about 1/2 of a gallon left (filled about 19.5 gallons).

I know, stupid thing to do but hey, at least I didn't run out :P

Wow, the most I have gone is around 375 miles with my led foot. I drove around with the Orange light on for a while but mostly because I'm picky about where I fill up at. After I filled the next time around I got it to about 18.3 gallons. That was as far past the Orange as I dared to go. Normally though I always fillup when it gets to about a 1/4 tank left. As stated above I don't like the idea of any residue or sediment left behind at the bottom of the tank getting sucked into the gas filter. [img]/w3timages/icons/cool.gif[/img] Peace.
