Window Tint Question...
Hey people,
I have a black/black G35C6MT and when I first got it, I had 15% tint to the rear windshield done. Now I am considering tinting the side windows 15%...I originally didn't do it because I was afraid of stupid cops (had some bad experiences with my previous car) and tinted windows makes the interior darker on those nice sunny days when you want the light in. Anybody got any pics of their tinted out black G's? Any advice/info if I should do it or not??
Thanks,
MrElussive

Re: Window Tint Question...
not black, but trentacinque does.
this is my 15% and i don't think it's dark enough, it looks lighter in person. When it is sunny out, you can still see in the car. On the up side it will probably pass for legal (35% in my state).... and i can still SORT of see out the sides at night.

Re: Window Tint Question...
Check my pics in the rides section. Mine is the same as redwillow, 15% all around. I think it's dark enough but not too dark.

That's one big pic.
Below 30% it get's difficult to see around corners at night, putting unlighted pedestrians, cyclists, etc., at risk; that's why there are laws in some states at around that level. I'd like to do mine, but I'm afraid w/no front plate AND a tint job I'd get stopped.
In CA, any tinting whatsoever is illegal on the front windows.

I think 15% is the darkest you should go...but you'll recognize that black tint on a black car doesn't look as black as black tint on a lighter color car.
15% all around I would say.

Re: Window Tint Question...
I love the way 15% looks. I got pulled over for expired tags and the cop didn't say anything about my tint. 35% is the legal limit here.

Re: Window Tint Question...
Thanks for all the advice, recommendations, and pictures...I really appreciate it. =)
I think if I do go through with this, I am going to have all the side windows done at 15%. Here are my reservations about the tint:
-I live in NJ where it's completely illegal to tint the front side windows any amount.
-Tints make the interior darker. I love sunlight and I would be depressed if my interior was really dark on the inside, all day long. Can anybody comment on cabin darkness after a 15% (or similar) tint??
-This is subjective, but the tints may also make the car TOO black, if that makes sense. I love tints, but you know how the G is all round and smooth all over, so I have the feeling that maybe if I get the 15% tints it will be hard to tell that the tinted windows are actually windows and the car will just look like some weirdo spaceship from the side. Am I crazy???
Thanks,

Re: Window Tint Question...
NJ huh. you'll definitly get a ticket. but who cares.
I wouldn't say it's really dark, I think it's just right.
35% is way too light for me and 5% is way too dark.
and if I want or need more light I just open the sunroof

Re: Window Tint Question...
MrE, I am in the same boat as you, as far as the legal limits are concerned. I am getting closer and closer to just biting the bullet, and getting a 35% all around. Cops might be more understanding if you have a 35% tint, as opposed to a 15%. Although, I think 15% will look nicer on a darker car. I have a DG, and 35% will look very nice. 15% on a black car is just electrifying.

Re: Window Tint Question...
Hey zorro, glad to hear I'm not alone on this one. As for your situation, all I can say is, go for 15% tint or nothing. I used to have a Jetta with 35% tint all around. I loved the tinted windows, but I always felt 35% was too light, which I thought was good for cops' attention. But I ended up getting a ticket for it and pulled over once or twice as well. So if you're gonna get window tint, I think you should definitely go for the 15% as you will be a lot happier. Unless you feel that 35% would look better with your DG Coupe. =)

Re: Window Tint Question...
My opinion is that 15 and 20% tints are too dark for a black car. Black makes the car look smaller as it is- and with the really dark tints then its too much black. You start to alter the look of the car. You want some sort of contrast. I think 35% all around will look great and thats what I plan on doing this spring. You want a subtle hint of a tint and don't forget- you want people to be able to look and see who's driving such a nice car. Real dark tints look great on silver and red cars. But as far as black- I would go with the subtle look. Or you can just do 35% on the sides and 15% in the rear. I stopped by my local Porsche dealer and all there tints they do are 35%. They feel its a classier tint than going black!
