Its the synchros at work, and anytime to abruptly downshift into second, the tires are going to break loose. You didn't do any significant harm, trust me!

2nd gear isnt that hard to get into at least i dont think so.. I usually just do clutch in, shift down a gear, rev, and then let go of clutch.

I don't have a MT but I don't see any reason y it would be harder to get into second compared to other gears.

Because the second gear synchros in our cars suck ***. At least that's what it feels like. I've gotten an odd "crunch" while driving 6MT G35s in the past (it's even happened in my '07 6MT Sedan a few times) and I'm not talking about grinding gears because the clutch isn't fully disengaged. It's simply a funky second gear issue that seems to happen randomly and sporadically every now and then.

nissan trannys have never been the best the syncros are not that great but the tranny is strong and can take some abuse. I do rev match while down shifting out of habit, and it is a got habit to start.

I wonder if his ears would start smoking if we tried to explain what "heel/toe" driving was.......

Anyway, about the 5k rpm comment: I'm a firm believer if you don't beat on your G once a day, you don't love it.

well i didnt mean it like if i never want my car to reach 5k rpm; of course im gonna open that thing up way until 7k, but it was the way that it went up to that rpm and all the drama the car made, but that was cleared up, so now im gonna wait till 1200 miles till i really open it up(assuming ive learned how to drive it perfectly by then;im only at 300 miles)

It could be the way you're holding the shifter. if you hold it with your hand over the top and try to pull it back to 2nd, it may not engage smoothly. Try holding it on the side of the shift **** with your thumb over the top (as if you were holding a joystick). you'll see that 2nd gear engages pretty smoothly when you hold it that way, because your natural motion would be to pull towards your body when you shift....
