Re: the haters

I posted this on another G35 site in the early part of Jan this year.

Welllllllll, I didn't expect this to happen but it's reared it's ugly head.

I play golf at a local municipal golf course here in little ole Asheville, NC. The population is about 60,000, not too large, not too small. Just to set the stage.

Played golf with a guy the other day that I've played with before. I'm trying to get some break-in miles on my G so I took it to the course and since I was going to be there for a few hours, put my Weathershield cover on it. We chatted about the car..etc..etc.. I had to leave after 9 holes to do a little visiting but he stayed on to play some more.

Next day, I'm back at the course. The wx is great here as it is many parts of the south right now and I'm not gonna waste good sunshine and warm temps messing around the house. When I got there the course was just too crowded and I could see it would be a while before I could play so I decided to just go back home and catch up on some honey-does. Just as I'm leaving, my golfing buddy pulls in and I roll the window down and tell him it doesn't look good and I'm going back home. He sticks his head in the window, looks around and says "nice!" Then he proceeds to tell me this story from a guy that joined him the day before to continue play. Here's what he told me this guy said.

"That guy with that covered car must be an idiot!! What the hell is he doing with a car like that at a muni golf course? And what the hell is the purpose of that cover?? He must have spent so much money on the car that he can't afford to play anywhere else." hahahahahaha..he laughs. "That car doesn't belong here, it belongs at one of those expensive clubs." My buddy stuck up for me but this guy wasn't going to be appeased. Finally he just dropped it. He won't tell me who the guy is but it must be someone I've played with before..probably whupped him too.

I also found out that ANOTHER guy thought that the car cost $80K when he saw it and went directly home, looked it up on the web and found out how much it really cost. He was also wondering what I was doing with such an expensive car. I chatted with him about it yesterday and now he's thinking about getting him one!

So, while this sort of attitude and behavior is rare, it's not uncommon. Since folks like that can get real stupid sometimes, I decided to just take my 120K mile Nissan truck to that course from now on. I would be just sick if I came in from a round of golf, took the cover off and found a long scratch down the side, or worse.
