G35 Exhaust Sound / Vid Clips!
Hey people, just trying to collect as many sound and video clips as I can of G's with aftermarket exhaust systems. I think this would be a valuable post for those who are in the market for an aftermarket system and would like to hear and see the various systems that are out on the market. It's one of those question that's asked quite often - "What does it sound like?" The Z's have their own page (http://www.everything350z.com/exhaust.html), and even though the sounds are pretty much identical, some have stated the G's do tend to sound a bit diferent, so with that in mind, why not have our own page.
If we get a good amount of clips, pics and vid's, I would be more than happy to transfer them all to my server so future forum members and net surfers can have access to them.
Whatever you got, whether its name brand, or home made, take some pics, and post some clips!

nice vid clip, u think u can make one of the car taking off? exhaust notes tend to sound different when the engine is under load, so it would be interesting to hear how aggressive that exhaust sounds under load...i wanna get an exhaust too, but seems like FI ppls have been losing power when adding an exhaust...well, if everything goes ok, then these guys will do my vortech...

FI - as in forced induction / supercharging? Power loss with an exhaust system?
Every car and truck I have owned (except for my G "for now") from my 95 M3 to my to my 95 Yukon GT, to my 99 Denali I have supercharged using systems from Vortech, Powerdyne, and Whipple. In EVERY application, whether it was the inline 6 or the V8's every suprecharger system manufacturer recomended that I use some sort of free-flowing exhaust system, other than stock to gain optimum results. It wasn't required, but they highly recomend it.
The faster you want to push that air and fuel into the engine, the quicker you gotta get it out. Backpressure plays an importnat role in naturally aspirated vehicles, but takes a "back seat" once you move into the forced induction arena.
Here's what Paxton has to say about backpressure and supercharged applications "The use of this double system is vital to the performance of the Supercharged engine, as exhaust back pressure will prevent the motor from developing its full horsepower." In case you're wondering, they're refering to an aftermarket dual exhaust systems when they mention "double system.".
Bottom line is when you go into boost, the less back pressure you have, the better everything will perform.
Having a zero back pressure exhaust on a non-supercharged car will in fact lead to a low end performance loss, but that's where exhaust system designers balance everything out, and unless you're running straight pipes, there's always gonna be back pressure, but when it comes to superchargering, less = betters!
I have a few more clips, and I'm working on more....

don't get me wrong ducati, i know that free-flowing exhausts should = more hp in FI applications, i have a turbocharged integra with a 3" downpipe and exhaust and it makes a world of difference from the 2.5" downpipe and exhaust setup...i was just saying that this guy with a supercharger dynoed his car b4 and after an exhaust install(borla i believe) and lost i think it was 7 hp...i don't know wat happend there, but i dont know why he would post such a thing if it didnt happen, i dont remember if it was this forum or freshalloy, but yea, thats wat he said...maybe they needed to reset the ecu?
Re: G35 Exhaust Sound / Vid Clips!
I think a supercharger needs a bit of backpressure or you end up loosing HP. I had a Grand Prix GTP before and if you made your exhaust to big and free flowing you actually lost some power.

What are you guys using to record your sound clips? I used a digital recorder and camera. It doesn't sound anything like the real thing.

I have the Sony Cybershot and it records 30 second movies, but how do you get the sound to record decently. Mine sounds so distant and muffled.
