same as above post...drove through the snow storm we just had in vancouver BC. I have 19 blizzaks on my stock rays. The car did well. The only issue is if u turn and step on the gas too much it will start to spin but VDC corrects by braking and sets it straight

Stopping distance with the snow tires seemed the same as summer tires on dry pavement. I was driving about 80km/h on the highway with mild snow on the road....no problems at all.

Be careful when turning/changing lanes and steppin on the gas due to the amount of torque and RWD...otherwise ITS ALL ABOUT THE TIRES. I will never drive a car in the winter without snow tires.....I spent 1400 dollars on my tires which may seem stupid...but if i save myself from an accident...which i will - then they pay for themselves...a small bumper accident is like a grand anyways.

I just dont get why people do not buy winter tires...and no all seasons are not good enough on the snow.

My winter beater just a took a dump on me and had to be towed to my buddy's shop for repairs, will be driving the G with summer tires today in Cleveland and 1 or 2 inches on the way this afternoon...should be a fun ride home!

Hi guys, I do have one question about the 17" tires:
- dealer says I absolutely need 225/55 to maintain the overall diameter (I have 19" right now).

Does anyone have any experience with 225/45? Would this work, or do I really need the 225/55?

thanks!

I put 3 bags of salt each 45lbs in my trunk with a good set of snow tires.. no problem.. just do not run the bags of salt in the trunk when you dont have too.. i only do this when i know i am going to be caught in a snow storm or i have to drive in the snow...

My stock 17"s are 225/45 front and 245/45 rear. It's horrible in snow. But they are not winter tires. I believe with good winter tires even if it's 225/45/17, you should be okay.

Buy a beater for the winter like i did. I got one for 500 and has save me the worries and my G is warm in her garage for the winter. Also you could buy dedicated snow tires but think about the salt on roads and the cinders they use here in cali which has destroyed my front end paint. Not to mention the potential to rust with the salt if you dont wash your cars under carriage. Just a me 2 cents.

THis will be my 3rd year with this set up. I have had no issues and love that I can have the look and traction too. Its even better when you a can go up a hill that a 4wd diesel with big swappers on is slipping on.

Reviving old thread...

Sorry, kinda bored.

But, i have lm22 and have gone through almost a foot of snow. can't say It was smooth but it moved even on a hill.

Tires, VDC needs to be OFF (otherwise it will pull to a complete stop on a slippery hill), a 6 speed manual and common sense will get you through anything.

If it's too high, stay home.

Just my 2 cents.

lol this thread is an antique..

but since you bumped it anyway: half the replies in here are ridiculous. I winter drive my 06 6mt without vdc (or good luck going sometimes) on blizzak lm60s. It's 100% fine and there's no reason to cry about it.

Anyone who says you shouldnt is a baby and probably shouldn't be driving their G in the rain either

I'm in Canada and have driven my G in snow so high it was at the grille. Our neighbourhoods are last priority for plows (Edmonton is a shitty city) and I have never been stuck even once.

Huh? Either you live in northern Siberia or you just don't want to drive your car.

I pretty much drive the car in the summer, during the winter time, my kids have soccer and other types of winter sports where the equipment does not fit in the G, along with the dirty shoes, etc...

I don't blame him. Driving your car in the winter really takes a toll on the undercarriage. My poor exhaust is getting eaten up

Not if you take care of it. I detail my G thoroughly before it snows (8 hour detail on exterior) and keep it spotless. Its usually so cold nothing will stick, and the days its slushy I wash outside and underneath before parking it. It's actually easier to keep clean when its below freezing temps every day. My car is glossy for 99% of winter haha.
