HomeLink Ideas?

Hey guys, I love my G and got all the Prem Pkg but I cant use the HomeLink cus I dont live in a house. Live in a apt building that uses a magnetic key, no remotes.

So my question is, anyone go good ideas of alternative uses for the HomeLink buttons? or is there any way to mod a magentic key to work with HomeLink? I know the building can deactivete the keys if someone looses them. There must be a way.

Re: HomeLink Ideas?

hook it up to a laser, so when ppl cut you off. You can zap them.

Dont TV remotes use Infrared? Actually that leads me to a new question, anyone know the range of the Homelink transmitter in the G? Read 30ft to 150?

Yup. Most eletronic appliances are IR... You can set it to turn on most appliances that are plugged in, to unlock your door, disarm your alarm, etc.

Re: HomeLink Ideas?

I can operate my garage door from over 100 feet away, my shop garage door from around 80-100 feet.
As far as other uses, you can turn on your lights in the apartment, or at the front door, you just need to pick up remote swithes from the hardware store.
As far as that goes, you can probably think of 100's of ways to use remote swithes.

Re: HomeLink Ideas?

Those are all good ideas but I live in a huge apt complex with over 225 units. The garage for all the cars is more then 200ft away from the living spaces, so truning on anything in my house probably wont work.

What I was looking for in terms of ideas was other uses for the car. Anyone?

Re: HomeLink Ideas?

I have projector foglights with a remote to turn them on. Is it possible to program the Homelink to turn on my fogs instead of using the remote that came with the kit?
How could I do this? Thanks for any help on this.

Re: HomeLink Ideas?

There's a thread at the top of the Audio/Video section about using the Homelink buttons for alternative purposes.

Hmm. Put an animatronic dinosaur next to your parking space and make him roar everytime you come home. That would be cool.

Re: HomeLink Ideas?

A friend of mine with a 330i wired his brights to his homelink so when he pulls up he just flashes his brights and his garage door opens. Kinda cool. We've actually seen his neighbords drive by and flash their lights seeing if they can operate his door.
