Silver is hard to achieve the metalic look without having a metalic paint in the original image. The light, etc. is just different. How 'bout blue?

I can do these better if you really need them for something more than just curiosity's sake. Yellow...

Re: nvm i cant seem to post the pic
EuroG35,
I'll give you the story on how to achieve white. White and black are the most difficult colors to achieve next to a metallic.
I'll try to do a black one tonight. I'll post again tonight with a tip for getting white. The trick is keeping the midtones & shades and eliminating the hue almost entirely (sometimes leaving a touch of blue makes it look more real, depending on the environment the car was shot in.) Those masks I used were pretty crude.

Eurog35,
Sorry for the delay. There's a 1000 ways to skin a cat in photoshop. White can usually be achieved by doing the following. Remember, each photo has it's own set of factors so there is no fail-safe method every time.
Duplicate the original main image layer. I always leave a layer of the original just in case. Create a selection of the car's paint color (red in this case) and use "Hue/Saturation" to desaturate the paint color. (A good selection goes a long way to making the final image more realistic.) This will give you a gray paint color. Keeping your selection of the original paint, copy and paste this. You will now have a new layer alligned perfectly above the image where you have turned the paint to gray. This layer will be grayed paint also. Make this layer about 50% opacity and use the "Luminosity" layer mode. Use "Brightness/Contrast" to adjust this new layer. Up the brightness and contrast to make the top grayed paint color to become white. You'll see the midtones fade, etc. The trick is to try to keep a good range of grays, but achieve the main paint color looking white. I use different methods each time I do something like this. Experimenting with different modes, etc. can usually get you there. Use "Hue/Saturation" and stack layers. Make sure you only copy the paint color of the car to a new layer, that way the environment, etc. aren't effected.
Sorry for the long post. This post could be about 6-7 times longer if I didn't assume you have an O.K. knowledge already of Photoshop.
