One more reason to love your G..
Re: One more reason to love your G..
Hi G35Gal,
As far as I know, .cda is the link format stored in the table of content in the CD, and that link directs the cd player to the different parts of the CD to play diff songs. All audios on CD are stored as 44kHz sampling rate .wav form.

I think my friend, that if you go into Google and do a search on cd's...cd format...cd music and things of that nature, you'll find that .wav formats are too large for cd music. That's why MP3 is so popular. It has great quality and is compressed so you can get a lot of music in a relatively small space.
Windows Media Player uses .wma if I'm not mistaken. Itunes will use either AAC or MP3..your choice. Most vidio games, or at least most of the ones I have, do use .wav files for the game sounds.
Do this, go to My Computer, right click on Explore, then find the music cd you've put in, left click on that and the file type should come up. I'll bet it's .cda

So can someone please list the best cd-rw to use? Or even just list the ones that just work.

Standard ("Red Book") CDs contain only uncompressed 16 bit 44.1KHz (sampling frequency) interleaved stereo sound files. MP3s use at least four different amounts of "lossy" data reduction to save disc space. If my memory serves me (I rarely have any personal use for MP3s) the rates are 384, 192, 128 and 64 Kbits/second. The highest rate is the highest sound quality, but uses the most disc space. Standard CDs have rate of 150 KBytes/second, and a byte is 8 bits, so in MP3 terms it would translate to 1200 Kbits/sec. So the best MP3 quality uses about a third of the space of a CD track, and the lowest uses about a 20th. 64K sounds quite noticeably degraded, but 384K to many listeners will be indistiguishable from the original CD.
Satellite radio systems use similar variable compression schemes, allocating the higher rates to more "important" channels and lower ones for things like talk and news, which is why some Sat channels sound pretty poor.

Rashman, I'm getting over my head here because I simply don't know alot of this stuff but when you burn a cd, either CD-R or CD-RW, just make sure it's in the .cda format if you want to play it in your G. I think that's all that's really important.
Most of the programs that burn CDs will allow you to select the format. Choose the one that says something about being able to be played in most CD players. That should be .cda.
