I've only had my G for a week and about 200 miles so I'm still in the break in period and trying to baby her. The problem is every knucklehead with a gas pedal and a foot to push it wants to race. I've stayed below the 4000rpm range until last night when inexplicably some nut floors his car in an attempt to stop me from merging. It quickly became dangerous as the end of my lane was approaching and 15 cars were lined up in the other lane. It wasn't a situation where I was trying to cut someone off, I was comfortably ahead and about to merge when I notice this nut punch it. I had no choice but to stop cold or accelerate myself. As you know the G has plenty of juice so I got over pretty easily but had to damn near redline to do it. I hope one hard run doesn't hurt her to much during break in period. I've noticed this a lot...everyone wants to try you, even to the point of being dangerous. Anyone have the same experiences???

 

Racing on city streets is something that I shouldn't do. You just have to try and let these boneheads rev and fly right past you. Trust me, cops love the G. I've got 2 speeding tickets to prove it. The $500 or so bucks I've shelled out is not worth the speeding. A kill now and then is always a great feeling.

 

I have the same problem... just north of where I live is where lots of 'new rich' people live (Old Alabama/Country Club of the South area in Alpharetta/Duluth). Almost every time I get in the Old Alabama/Medlock Bridge area, I have some 16 year-old in his daddy's Ferrari, SL500, 911 Turbo, etc. trying to race me. I even had one kid in a 'vette trail around me flashing his lights, slowing down in front, and swerving at me. This was on a 3-lane RESIDENTIAL road! I just ignore the goons -- too many people already killed in accidents (some of them in non-involved vehicles like the 16-year-old girl in her BMW that raced and hit an older lady).

I think the police don't patrol this as much as they should because too many people donate too much $$$. I've just decided to avoid the area if possible because of the looneys. My brother was run over by a car when I was younger, and I refuse to race people.

If you don't want to race on public roads, more power to you. Nobody around here is going to be offended by that.

However, if you drive a sexy car that screams "I'm bad-*** fast" you can't expect others around you not to notice. If you're driving around in your coupe wondering why people want to race you then you're like a hot looking woman in a string bikini who can't figure out why guys are staring and whistling.

If you want a fast car but don't want anyone to rev on you at stoplights then sell your Coupe and supercharge a Camry.

at a redlight, all kinds of people just gun their car!!!
temp tag civic, TL, CL, accord, neon(NON srt-4), camry, celica GT, rsx, MDX, ML320, odyssey, sienna, etc and so on... i hate this car!! everybody just staring me!!! dark tints is must one this car!!!

 

I get challenged to a race constantly. I guess that is the "price" I pay for being a 25 year old behind the wheel of a G35C. However, I have found some fairly effective ways to avoid a race.

1. Ignore them, a person revving at a redlight is not forcing you to race, they are asking if you would like to. If you want to, then great, have fun with your car, just keep it safe. If you don't, exercise self control and don't, I have almost never had anyone do anything stupid to me to try to egg me into a race.

2. Blow them away off the line, they rarely line up at the next light

Anyway, that is just my opinion.

Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

Maybe you don't how the trick of lane change. If the coast is clear (when you are far ahead of him) just switch into it and use turning signal as you are half way into it. Everyone gas when they see another car tries to merge into your lane. Learn how to drive in the city.

 

Yes, I, like everyone else, get's hit up to race constantly. I live in Southern California where it seems every Civic, Accord, Neon, Jetta, RSX etc. want a piece of the G35 Coupe 6MT. Although I'm 34, I look like I'm 25, so people think I'm some sort of spoiled little punk (no offense to 25 yr old G35 drivers), but I've worked really hard to get the money for this car.

I can't drive this car in peace!! I could just be cruising along on the freeway, pass a lowered Prelude, and he'll think I'm trying to race him. I usually let them go, I don't want to waste my gas on those little ones.

Ignore them before break-in and have occassional revs over 4000rpm. If you have a feeling people stare at you at the light have tints installed. Have fun after, spank some a$$ and be the proud owner.

 

...it's pretty bad in the Chicago area too. The "ricer" fad has spread in Chicagoland quickly, and any 4 cylinder car, as long as it's got an obnoxious spoiler or a greddy exhaust, tries to race. It's not really a race, however. They sneak up on you and pass before you realize they wanted to race, then usually turn off the road before a legitamate race was possible. My one friend who owns a modded Maxima calls this a "ricer fly-by".

It also seems that any car with a V6 thinks they can beat you. While I don't street race, it's starting to get ridiculous. (For instance, a few weeks ago a Ford F350 "raced" me. I thought he was kidding!). So now after almost a year of owning the car I'm getting pretty good at ignoring them.

I get that quite a bit. A lot of times it will work where I can accelerate really fast and as the other person is about to get up beside me a will hit the brakes a bit and let them pass and then I can merge. Kind of like fishing. Throw out the bait, most will bite.

 

I fixed the problem. I have a bright neon sign with a urge sensor next to the instrument cluster. When the sensor activates, it flashes, "Don't Even Think About It !! ". Urge goes away, problem solved. [img]/w3timages/icons/tongue.gif[/img]
