Just Brought Her Home
Just Brought Her Home
Well, I finally did it. I just picked up my G35C this evening, and lets just say I skimmed through the part about keeping the rpm below 4200... I hit 130 on the way home, racing my friends Ford Lightning. Yeah, his truck would wip me from a standing start, but on the freeway at 90MPH, I did not realize that this car had such great legs at high RPM... I kept up with him (from behind) - but he was not pulling to far ahead... Handles like a dream! All I can say is that I cant sleep, and I just want to go out and sit in it! Love the car and so does my friend... he now wants one

Congrats on the car, however bad move taking it to a buck thirty. You have certainly violated the break-in laws =). I would suggest not taking it above 4k rpms anymore. Go easy on acceleration for the first 1,200 miles. I know it's tempting but you save yourself from further problems down the line.

Congrats on the new car. I also picked up mine this week and have the same feeling you expressed, but have not taken it near the 4k mark.
Coming out of an elipse spyder manual, I am so impressed with the tightness and giddy up this car has with some luxury thrown it to boot. Unfortunately for me it may take awhile to get to the 1200 mark as I put on less than 5k miles per year. My 96 sypder hasn't even hit the 40k mark yet which I'm keeping for the summer at least.
Other than my wifes m320, this is the first a/t (don't ask) I've bought in 15 years. The m/t is the only thing I miss with this puppy.

Re: Just Brought Her Home
One of my friends is very much into cars. In fact, he has just developed a new supercharger for the CLK430 (really nice) - he has been doing R&D for a number of perfromance shops. Anyway, I know nothing about cars. I just know how to push the vertical pedal on the right and hang on.
He told me that the proper way to break in a car was to really push it (something about helping the piston rings sit well). There is an article about this here http://www.angelfire.com/ia/z/FZ1breakin.htm
(the test was done on motor cycle engines by Moto Man).
Anyone have any thoughts or comments about this?

Re: Just Brought Her Home
Faustiano, this is very similar to the article in the FAQ & DIY section about engine breakin. I tend to agree with this method of engine breakin based on the facts that are shown over several thousands of miles on the engine.
Look at the article from FAQ & DIY:
