is there really a big difference using premium gas vs regular gas for normal everyday driving in the g35? using regular gas really ****s up the engine?

 

just get premium... over time you will start to have problems if you use regular gas

 

i hear its better for your engine!..i use 93 Premium octane ever since i bought my car..to fill up my car its 48 bucks..and i only get like 250-280 on a tank!!! i drive city for like 10 mins then highway!! shiet i get horrible gas mileage..and have to fill up every week!

Lucky you we don't really have 93 octane in socal, at least not in normal gas stations we're 87-91

As far as regular vs premium I don't think it's much of a big difference, although higher octanes are supposed to make you go faster.. And I've never heard of regular gas causing problems, probably a myth, because I have some cheap friends that fill their Benz/BMW's with regular gas and it works fine..

Before we even address the issue of how regular gas effects the performance of the engine, have you actually done the math to see how much money you would save in a year by switching?

 

i think higher octance raiting gas also has a lower alcohol content too

 

The engine and computer are tuned for a fuel between 91 octaine & up. Anything less will cause the engine to run less efficiently & possibly cause wear. The price difference is not much when you do the math. [2 bucks at the most]. I really can't see any logic in penny pinching over gas when we drive this type of car . I use Shell 93 and my car runs great.

You need to run high octane gas in high compression engines to prevent pre-detonation of the fuel/air mixture which in turn causes knocking and pinging in your engine. That's all higher octane fuel does, it detonates at higher pressures than does low octane fuel.

What happens is the higher compression alone will cause the fuel/air mixture to detonate before the piston has reached TDC/maximum compression where it's supposed to.

Not a good idea to run low octane fuel in these things....

 

Yeah, that's all theoretical bull**** that I can't contest because I don't have the knowledge. The reason I think I'm right is real-world experience. I know lots of people with cars that "require" 91 octane who don't use premium gas because of the ****ed up gas prices and have been doing so for years actually and they haven't had any problems with using normal gas. And they are using it on cars with less reliability than our cars, like R/T Chargers and stuff. I don't know ANYONE who has had problems using regular gas in $40k, $50k, $60k cars...

 

I use a mixture of Diesel and Urine ...
I get amazing gas-mileage.

jk, but seriously, just use premium, your savings are not going to outweigh what damage might happen to your engine.

 

Do you really believe gas is that overpriced where you can't justify the extra $2 at each pump?

If you think gas is overpriced then stop buying cups of coffee from starbucks for $4! For god sake a gallon of gas is cheaper than a cup of damn ice coffee at starbucks...
