Is it possible to resurface 6mt rotors. PLZ Help
Is it possible to resurface 6mt rotors. PLZ Help
Hey guys I just had my brake pads changed in the front and now there is this grinding noise coming from the passenger front wheel. The noise can be desribed as constant friction of two turning metal objects. This noise is constant and does not go away even when the car is under braking. The guys who did the job say they need to resurface the rotor and thats the problem. Now I have a 6mt so I dont know if the brembo rotors can be resurfaced. Do ppl usually replace em. BTW the car has 15000 aggressive miles.

Yes, you can resurface any rotors. By resurfacing, they are taking only a small part of metal off the surface to better fit the pads, so they wear evenly. The amount of metal they take off is in the hundreds of an inch.

Yes, but if you continue to resurface them, they will tend to warp faster. I've never seen a problem with the G35 Rotors so far, but for the 300Zs we usually replace them because they tend to last longer.

Ya its only this time I will resurface. Next time the rotors get changed with pads. Thanks for the help.

Re: Is it possible to resurface 6mt rotors. PLZ Help
When I took ok my car in to get my first brake job early at around 12k miles they said they could only resurface the front ones one time..then they would need to replace them at the next brake job interval and that was going to cost me $1500 for the rotors/brake pads/ installation..etc....I think thats ridiculous...so since my first brake job I just downshift....barely touch the brakes now.

there's another thread about this Rob... turned out to be just some caked-on brake dust on the inside of the pad itself.... the guy washed the pads and rotors very well and the grinding noise ceased.

If the grinding noise is constant and not just under braking then there is a problem. If your not under braking then nothing should be touching the face of the rotor. Resurfacing should only help if it's squeeling during braking.

It is constantly grinding. I know this is a problem cause it should be doing that. On of the pads was very hard to put in the caliper and I think it does not move back when its supposed to and stays touching the rotor surface.

Next time you take your car for a drive after your done reach down and touch the wheel that the noise is coming from. If it's really hot then your brakes are sticking and turning the rotors won't help.
