Brakes & Tires

i own a 2005 g35 6mt and am in need of new brakes and tires. should i stick to OEM brakes? if so, what brand is it? about the tires, what do y'all recommend? i hear falken fk 542s are pretty good. please list a few top-rated AFFORDABLE tires (preferably ones with little road noise & comfort).

There are separate sections on this forum just for brakes and tires. There are plenty of threads on pads and tires.

Oem brakes are fine so are Hawk pads. I have FK 452s and I love em.

hawk pads FTW.. and tires are always a toss up, but 452's are always good.. so are Toyo Proxes T1R's for performance... Michelin PS2's aren't too bad either.. hmmm.. I run Proxes4 and don't have any complaints

thanks guys, keep em coming... as for now i guess i can put the brakes on hold given that it hasn't been giving me any problems in terms of noise and braking; it just looks a bit thin. however; tires are something i should really look into and so far my eyes are on the falken fk452s.

Hawks dust less, true, but don't bite as well as OEM pads do, especially if you live in northern climates where temps drop below 45 and it rains.

mine have been fine so far, will have to see what happens this winter. Still have the OEMs pads may go back to them for the winter with the 17s. Just hated cleaning the chrome on the 20's every other day with the OEMs

Check out the Yokohama AVS ES100's from Tire Rack. Good price, agressive looking tire, much better than Michelin PS2's, and a dang good tire.

+1 I've been running the same set since I've replaced my stock. Talk about GRIP; these babies not only look so aggressive from a stand still and perform aggressive in even in hard wet surface. Another plus is it's thicker in threads to some of the other ones I've checked out thus you've got more rubber to burn specially on a G35 that's RWD. The flame out design on the threads when you look from the rear just makes the G look so good. Price on the other hand, if you can afford the G - then you should be able to afford the right shoes. My 2 cents.

I just changed my brake pads 2 days ago with OEMs. It's a 2005 G35 5AT with 43K. The rears were low (enough to make the annoying indicator touch the rotors) but the front pads had still 50% left, to my surprise. There is a great DIY for brakes on this forum, I'd highly recommend it. I've never changed pads in my life mostly because I was worried since it's such a vital component and possibly hazardous if done improperly but it took me 20 minutes for both rear pads. It's practically, impossible to screw up. There is one screw to loosen in the rear and two in the front and that's all...I think it's easier than an oil change but a tad harder than changing the air filter

P.S. I didn't get my rotors turned since there is no indication that it's warped. I put 1000 miles since changing the pads, no noise, no problems.
