Driving speed and wind direction apparently trump any possible gas mileage difference on the sedans.
A difference of ~5% probably isn't always detectable due to the constant variance in traffic, weather, driving conditions, but there will be a difference, you cannot retard the timing without having an effect on mileage. If you run your car hard at all, you will easily see the difference
