Smile As an older G owner (literally)

I still have a love affair going with my car. I leased it for 4 years and I bought it at the end of the lease. I simply cannot find anything else for the money that makes sense for me. I have an 02 Tahoe as a winter vehicle and an old Pontiac convertible for fun, and a few motorcycles for more fun.

My question is that a lot of you have modified your G. Lowered, etc. Would you do it again? What mod made the biggest difference? Suspension upgrades? If so what? Anti sway bars, new shocks?

I autox my G actively and mine is stock except for a Stillen CAI. I don't want to modify anything that bumps me into another class but want a little better handling. I am thinking anti sway bars at the moment and a cmber kit to get some more adjustment in the front alignment.

How about brakes? For track days, even the Brembo's won't hold up all day. The fluid boils. I believe we are stuck with Dot4 brake fluid and most of the higher temp (600 degrees) are Dot5 which is not recommended for ABS.

I'm curious for your input.

I heard the sways and Strut Bar make quite the difference. Also, if youre going to lower your car, do it right, the FIRST time, and go with coilovers and camber arms. Id suggest an adjustable set that you can change the dampening and the ride height.

Though I've not autocrossed the car in a couple of years, I've found the sway bars to be a really nice mod that improve the feel and responsiveness of the car, and make it feel lighter on its feet. I left the stock rubber bushings in so I could maintain some compliance in my ride, and for a little more forgiveness in winter, but the improvement in body lean was still quite noticeable.

But don't sways bump you into SP or some other class anyway?

i think the brembo bbk is the best bbk out there, brembo makes them for the track i would suggest you switch fluid to ate super blue, you should have no boiling problems with that.

stillen doesn't make a CAI for starters, only their ice box which is short ram. If you autox your car, upgrading springs/coilovers will probably put you in a different class, but not a chamber kit or sways unless you declare them lol. Also, different bushings are a sneaky little mod to stiffen everything up, and it's completely unnoticeable. You probably want better pads, not a bigger break setup. (all this in mind will keep you in the same class). Your intake probably already put you in a different class, so just look at what the rules are for that class, or the class you wish to compete in and go from there. Honestly, the intake is not worth it if it will put you in a different class since you will get no power gains out of it.

+1 On sways. I lowered my G on Eibach Pro Kit and I def noticed an improvement in handling. As far as doing it all over again... i prob would, but anytime you mod there are issues...

Suspension is always #1. Wheels for looks. If you don't have Brembos, then a BBK will do wonders for such a heavy car. If you do, then a simple upgrade of pads/ss lines/fluid should suffice.

Coilovers w/adjustable dampeners and sways made a huge difference in my handling from oem and I had the sport pckg. I'm parcial to Cusco, but that's me.

Camber kit a must, especially if you lower (my next thing to get) I want to run -1.2 camber on all 4's, but again that's me.
Screw tire wear, I'll trade for good handling in my DD anyday. No I don't track my G, but may someday for shiets and giggles.

Brembos are already known as very good. Change pads, better fluid, better lines. If still a problem, go BBK. Think Motul has good fluid too, but boiling point? idk off hand.

Not up on class differences, so guess it depends on which class you want to run, in relation to your mods.

before lowering my last nissan I put on the nismo rear sway, and the lower tie bar. made an INSANE difference! next thing I knew I was taking corners I couldn't take at 35 before at 60+ so I'd HIGHLY recommend sways

I put a Stillen CAI on when new and SCCA and Motorsports NE have both passed it as stock. I believe lowering throws you into another class but I believe sways and barely legal street tires (Falken Azenis RT615) keep you in F Stock (SCCA) and C Class (Motorsports NE).
