Did you follow "Break In Instructions??"

I know there are a thousand posts about what others say about the 1200 mile break in period. I'm currently approaching 700 and have stayed below 4000 rpms for the most part. Expert opinions aside, I was curious about how many of you actually follow the break in instructions and those of you that didn't have you noticed any ill effects. I'm getting an itchy gas pedal foot and want to test the G now that the weather is breaking.....

Going over 4000 rpms at 700 miles is not going to ruin the engine. But driving at the same speed and at the same RPM will be a bad thing. Make sure you speed and rpm change all the time.

Nope. My break-in was on the moderate-to-slightly-rough side.

Re: Did you follow "Break In Instructions??"

the only thing i did was not hold a constant speed for any long periods of time, other than that i usually just drove it how i felt. easy sometimes. when when i had the urge. i drove it like it was made to be driven

Re: Did you follow "Break In Instructions??"

yeah.. its a torquey engine, it was pretty easy.. but I did hit 5000-5500 two or three times unintentionally.

I think if you are kind to the car in general, it will be good to you later. Dont forget, youre breaking in the wheel bearings and tranny too.

There's no correlation to any specific damage to not doing it. Its just an ounce of prevention.

Re: Did you follow "Break In Instructions??"

I guess it depends on how long you will be keeping the car. I am no expert on engines by far, but you would think the longer you plan on owning the better you would take care of it. I pulled out the the dealer lot and within minutes of driving I had it into the 5.5 - 6K range . Within the rest of the break-in period I'd have to say I was pretty hard on the car. Understand this is my wifes car so I rarely drive/drove it so when I had the chance I didn't ***** foot around. Like other people have said, this car is made to be driven. My wife will want another new car in say three or four years so hopefully I haven't damaged it too much. We have owned it almost one year and so far no problems.

Re: Did you follow "Break In Instructions??"

Mainly followed the break-in period. Did break the RPMs on occasion unintentionally. I was more concerned with the other driver train parts, like tranny, LSD, etc. Engines are tested in at the plant when they come off the production line. They are put through rigorous tests, but with no load (no tranny, mass of the vehicle, etc).

As someone posted earlier, be good to her now and she will be good to you later.

Re: Did you follow "Break In Instructions??"

for me, i had a different situation than most ppl.. not like i'm proud of the fact that i had 2 coupes.. but for my first coupe, i babied it like no tomorrow.. barely touched 4000 RPM, and since i'm an AT, i never even played with manumatic until i passed 1500 miles.. when i was fortunate enough to get another coupe, i drove it as if i alreadi passed break-in.. hit redline a bunch of times.. to me, it just seemed like it was the same car.. if you don't see yourself holding onto this car for a very long time, i would not worry about break-in.. i kno for a fact that many 350 and g35 people will trade-in or sell the coupe once the next "big" thing comes out..

Re: Did you follow "Break In Instructions??"

if you keep your oil changed and don't rev your motor when it is cold you will have no problems revving it high. If you take care of your engine and it doesn't have problems by warranty end then you probably won't have problems.

Drive it hard if you like.

Last vehicle I had I sold at 144000 with no power or oil loss. I never followed break in instructions with it.

Re: Did you follow "Break In Instructions??"

From many people's posts on this thread, I realize that I am very happy I bought a NEW coupe. Haha.

Anyways, I got a question for you all. Kinda off topic but kinda on topic.

This whole "You must vary your engine load and not stay at one speed" thing.

Why?? I try to vary in my break in, just cause that's what everyone says, but I want to know why. Anyone know?

Re: Did you follow "Break In Instructions??"

We just got a red coupe on Wed. and already had a Pro 1 exhaust installed by the dealer we had purchased from Moog. NO silencers, lotta db's, lotta car alarms goin off and a lotta turned heads around the philly area the last few days. Break-in...I broke it in good when I got home from school today.

Sure did. I followed what the O/Manual said. I figured Infiniti knows more than me, so I did what they suggested.

Re: Did you follow "Break In Instructions??"

I absolutely did nothing different during the so called break-in period - just drove the car then like I drive it now.
