I've only had my G 3 weeks, so its still new, and so is the beautiful response I get when the bottom of the accelarator pedal hits the carpet... (vs the S/C Scion xB I just got out of.)

I'm on my 3rd tank of gas, and i'm writing down my mileage, and the amt of fuel i'm buying, date etc... (Gonna try to keep track on this car.)

My offical mileage on my second tank of gas was 12.7mpg.
I'm perfectly fine with that. Right now i'm driving the **** out of my car. I'll probably dial it back in a month or so.
Its a performance car, I consider it a waste to not extract the potential from it simply to get better gas mileage. But to each their own.
IMO, if your a MPG feind, get a Prius.

Put your foot in it!

(No I don't have stock in Exxon Mobile etc...)

It is the driver, but that really sucks when you think about it. I could bang gears every day in my S2000 and the gas mileage would be ten times better than this car. I love the G with all my heart and wouldn't dream of selling it, but in order to get decent gas mileage I have to have no fun .

haha. Same here. I also had a S2K... Hit redline daily and gas was a lot better then the G... I never take my G pass 3.5k... And the MPG still sucks.

S2k was a fun car. But the G is a nice classy car.

In my opinion, the G is perfect for both driving styles. If you want to drive it like you stole it, then expect crap mpg's. Turn off the VSD and it gets even worse! But a ton of fun at the same time! On the other hand, baby the throttle on long drives and you will be amazed with the mpg's. I used to drive regularly between Baltimore and Philly and could average 25 to 29 mpg's round trip easily.

It’s not the driving style that gets horrible MPG in the G35 people,
JUST FACE THE REALITY...
Reality is that 3.5 Nissan engine is a poorly engineered motor.

G35 is not my first car, I had my share, I had 4 BMW's, 1 Lexus, and I hated only one of them that was the 318ti with a weak 1.8 motor. The straight six engines on the BMW's I can say is a work of art, from fuel economy to power band and refinement.
The 13 year old 3.0 BMW M3 motor will still put the new Nissan 3.5 motor to shame. Lexus's 17 year old 4.0 v8 engine in (LS400, SC400) also will outperform the 3.5 in smoothness, refinement, fuel economy and in Power.
I drove my G35 for more than a year now, and I hate the power delivery, fuel economy, automatic transmission shifting, and very poor quality interior. I do love the looks and handling but that’s where the likes end. Just look at how G35's drop in value over a few years and compare it to other high end cars, people are catching on and realizing something. The VQ35 engine does have plenty of HP but so badly refined and combined with cheap build quality of the G35's and this car is certainly nothing to be proud of...

Wow, why is it again that you own a G?
Perhaps you'd get better gas mileage if you put gas in the tank, and not hateraide.......

Sorry to flame, my G is one of my fav cars to date, so its like you're telling me my girl is horrible in the sack. It could be true, but compared to what i've had before, shes great.

I suppose thats why Bimmers have been Car & Drivers #1 baby for so long...

soo i went from san jose to jackson casino (125miles away) on the way up i was doing 80-85 also passing cars on the 1 lane road so spirts of 100-105, then on way back i was easy doing 75-80 all the way home. so total of 250 miles i got 24.9 mpg according to the screen (which i reset before i left san jose) gas tank was filled up and it is now 1 line under half . not to shabby expensive trip though lol.

Sorry
I just had to vent my anger
It's just i was expecting so much more when I bought this car and got really disapointed.
I forgot to mention in the previous post, My gf drives a 2000 323i BMW and G35 is much noisier on the road and I don,t mean the exhaust sound, i can hear every change on the road from poor noise insulation.
Someone said once " G35 is a great thought executed badly"
and I totally agree.

Then Why is the VQ the only engine on WARD's 10 best every year the list has been made?

Try driving the 07/08 for road noise.

I came from a C5 corvette. You are lucky you dont own a GM car. The corvette is supposed to be the flagship of the GM cars. The build quality is low even in the Vette. rattles, squeaks, and so on. The car was hard to work on also. A clutch job consisted of having to remove half of the car to get to it. Of course, the G doesnt have as much power as the Vette, but it handles just as good. Im fairly happy with the power output of the 3.5. Its not a V8, but how many V6 engines do you know of that puts out almost 300hp in normally aspirated form?
