You can remove the ashtray bin but then there's the plastic housing of the ashtray that holds the bin. I don't think the ashtray casing falls forward enough to reach behind it. I think you have to remove the center console to get behind the ashtray.

well mine has scews holding down the center console towards the rear on the sides. that are being covers by a little push on covering to hide the screws.
and when it seems like i was tryign to up it off, the part where the bottom of the radio and center console didnt seem like it would budge

then remove shifter, put shifter in neutral, pull up center console over shifter....

You can't access the rear of the ashtray through the back of the ashtray even if you remove the black bin...
