My Gas Gauge is messed up, and my car is a pain to fill up.
I did a seach but didn't find the answers I was looking for. Rather than bring a thread back from the dead, I thought I would start fresh.
I have a 2003 G35 coupe. In the past couple months the gass gauge just keeps getting further off. I usually get 380-400 miles out of a tank of gas. NOW my gauge is on Empty and the Fuel light comes on around 180-200 miles... ***My car was back at the dealer about 6 months ago for the fuel line recall.
I have no waranty. my car has 76k miles on it. I know some of you have had your cars back to the dealer and had this same problem fixed under waranty, but I am looking to fix it myself and not get raped by the dealer...
What do I need to replace??? Fuel tank sending unit? I dont think it would be in the cluster would it?
And my next question.... The car is a pain in the @ss most times to fill up. takes gas really slow. I am sure it has something to do with the fuel tank filler neck. I have read that there is some kind of valave in there.
What do I have to fix or replace to get this car to take fuel??? Where is that valve? In the tank????? In the filler neck????
Any insight would be helpful. I really cant see the dealer as an option. They are 2 hours away from me and I don't have the cash to throw at them with a parts guessing game.
Thanks in advance...

Same thing is happening with me man
When you find out, let me know.
I told them that it was a problem before my warranty ran out and they wrote me off like it wasn't a real problem.
I'mn a little pissed because now its going to cost me money. But everything that's happening to you is happening to me and I have an 03 coupe 6mt with almost 60k.

As for dropping the tank and replacing the sender, you don't have to, there is an access panel under the rear seat (pass side). Start your car and then remove the fuel pump relay, the car should die. Continue cranking the car until it no longer attempts to start (this should release fuel pressure in the lines). Remove the lower rear seat (two tabs, one per side, they pull out and you push seat up) once that is removed you'll see the access panel. use a flat blade screwdriver to pull the cover off (turn the tabs clockwise to remove) and disconnect the harness, remove the 8mm bolts and vola, theres the fuel pump and sending unit. Be sure to get the o-ring for the pump/sender, peace.

AWESOME.... Thats the info I was looking for... Just a couple more questions now. Where is the fuel pump relay located? and Is the valve on our G35 the same as the one on the 350Z? I am asking this because I drive right past the Nissan dealership everyday. The Infiniti dealership would have to charge me shipping.

you will love these solutions. if you can't fill up correctly either your fill neck or your fuel tank has to be replaced. i had my neck replaced 3 times and my fuel tank twice because the baffles were defective somehow. your fuel sending unit will have to be replaced if it doesnt read full ever. let me know if you need help getting parts i can bring or ship them when i come to va next month.
Update: the part numbers are the same, the 350z had the same itb on it. Part number for the valve is 17260-am600, the o-ring is 17342-ce800, hope that helps. As for the relay, i think theres a fuse for the fuel pump in the ipdm you can pull.

the second issue is easy like people said.
im experiencing the same problems with the gauge being off though and my dealership wont do anything about it. my light comes on about 200 miles. i now resort to always resetting my odometer when i fill up and only going about 300 miles/tank.

both are relatively easy fixes actually, the flapper valve is in the fuel tank, if you remove the sending unit (as stated above) you can actually fish the valve out and replace it while you're there. its behind a metal shield toward the rear of the tank (aprox area is under and to the rear of the access panel) it twists off and the other one twists back on. Yes this might involve getting gasoline on your arm, but its better to have gas on your arm for 5 minutes than on your paint or shoes if the valve sticks open or shut.
Can anyone verify/confirm/deny that this is the same issue and fix on the sedan? I'm curious if the sedan also has an access panel somewhere. I have both issues and with 83k on the car I figure it's worth figuring out if I can take care of it myself rather than take it to the dealer out of warranty.
Thanks in advance if anyone happens to know.
