Burning Clutch?

Hey guys,
My G35 coupe has about 400 miles on it now, and i swear almost every time i get out of the car it smells like damn burnt clutch. Even when i seem to be doing a pretty good job, and babying it, i still get the burning smell, i donno if it's the brakes, clutch or whatever. Maybe you guys can help me out. Thanks.

Re: Burning Clutch?

well the more you press the clutch, the more wear you put on it.
Also, when coming to a stop at a red light, for instantce, put on neutral and coast or mildly brake to a stop, do not downshift or use engine braking....that further wears the clutch....i dont know what else your problem could be dude, seems like no-one else is complaining about burnt clutch smell...
Also, are you new at driving MT's or have you had prior vehicles that were MT's..just curious thats all because i will be getting my 6MT in 2 months and I have never owned an MT but i have had experience with driving them (my bro has a Z3 that we drive every weekend and bunch of my friends also have MT's in their cars)
Suggestion: if this is your first MT: Let a pro drive it...then see if the smell is still there, if so then maybe something wrong with your engine???? i hope not!!!
well good luck dude, i hope it works out for you!

Re: Burning Clutch?

When my auto coupe was breaking in, I would sometimes get that smell. I don't now, so it may just be the car breaking in.

Re: Burning Clutch?

G35inKC,

Everyone gets that sulfur smell in the beginning, and it eventually goes away. After break-in, every now and then when you punch it, you'll get it again, but not as strong.

Re: Burning Clutch?

I was told it's some sort of protective coating on the exhaust system for overseas transport that burns off after a few hundred miles.

Re: Burning Clutch?

don't worry the smell will go away. I forgot when mine stopped, somewhere after 1000 I think.

Re: Burning Clutch?

I had the same thing with my 6MT. I figured it was the new brakes. It went away after about 2,000 miles.

Re: Burning Clutch?

Yea I've also heard before that there are certain parts of the engine that have paint or sealant or something on them, and this burns off for a while when the car's new, but will eventually go away
