Get the Freight Harbor jack and some 2x4's. Works great to lift the car, even lowered ones. Then get some floor jacks. Only issue is trying to get the floor jacks to not damage the pinch welds on the oem jack points. I made some adaptors from wood but they are not the best quality. I would like to buy something but am having a hard time sourcing some...

Got a jack and stands. Lifted everything up fine but there is no way in hell I'm going under that car... I don't trust my life to some $15 hunks of metal holding up 1.75 tons.

Anyone got any tips on helping me not be a pu$sy about this? Get a second set of stands? Put something under the wheels while they are in the air? So in case the stands fail the wheels will have some higher ground.

How about those ramps? Maybe I can just jack my car onto some ramps? (I know it sounds silly but the ramps shucks sells are too steep for the G front).

Any other ideas would be helpful... I would love to save some shop labor for little things like sway bars and the GTSpec bar installations, but I'm also not trying to die, haha.

the stands are more than enough man. if you're still nervous though, keep the jack under the center jack points (front - cross brace; rear - differential) as a precaution.

thanks man... will try it out. Going to pick up a set of those ramps too, to see if it would be easier to get it off the ground that way (front on ramps first and jack the back after wards). Or just to put them under the wheels to I have something under them if the other things fail. they are only like 35 bucks at Shucks so it's nothing really.

Jack stands should be plenty safe. Better than just relying on the jack to hold up the car. I would NOT advise jacking up the rear of the car with the front wheels on ramps. Your car is RWD and the e-brake is on the rear wheels. When you lift the rear wheels off the ground, there is nothing to stop the front tires from rolling back down the ramp. I almost learned this lesson the hard way.

Oh ya, good call lol... maybe ill back up the ramps and jack up the fronts that way? I duno... I mainly want to slide the ramps under the wheels to have some safety if **** breaks and the car free falls on my face....

It's not often that you need to have both the front and the rear of the car lifted at the same time. Even with ramps under the tires, if the jack stand were to fail (highly unlikely) the car would drop a long way. When you lift the frame, the suspension travels and the wheels hang down. Most people lift it so that the tires are 3 or 4 inches off the gound. At that height, I think you're still going to get smushed.

Yeah, thought about that too... that's why I'm not sure about how to secure it enough where I feel safe.. at least for the first couple of times. How far up do you guys usually jack your coupe to where it is comfortable to work on? Do you guys use a creeper? I got one dirt cheap but I am thinking I can shave off some distance and give myself room to work if I just slide myself under w/o it.

Jack stands will be fine. If it makes you feel better, use a jack stand and place the jack just below the frame height as a back up. I dont' use a creeper as space is usually at a premium. I jack it up 15"-18"

i want to fabricate my own jackstand mounting points so i can use the stock body jack points safely without bending the rails on the body. this would be ideal when all 4 corners have to be as high off the ground as possible for suspension and brake work. does anyone know of a place that sells these?
