Potentially new owner.....Bottom line?

I am looking to purchase a pre-owned 2005 G35 6MT coupe in probably 5 to 6 months. I had my heart set on this car, until I began to read some horror stories. Most notably tire feathering and oil consumption. So then my mind turned to my second choice auto....350Z. No good there, same platform same problems.

So I pose these questions to all of you current owners:

1) I see a TSB was released for the oil problem...has this fixed it?

2) So, absolutely no way to adjust the camber to alleviate tire wear problems, correct? If there is I wouldn't mind sacrificing some handling for longer lasting tires. I guess my choice would be for some tires with a very high wear rating. Any word/rumors about a fix from Infiniti?

3) Lastly, please give me a short, bottom-line review of the G35 coupe. And if you have recomendations on similarly priced/powered/styled autos I would appreciate it. I just can't find anything I would want as much...

If your considering the 06C 5AT, these are things to look out for;

1. Theres a recall on the OEM headlights.
2. There is a shudder problem with the 5AT's. Around 2.5 rpm, vehicle violently shakes. There is a TSB to fix this now.
3. Your really have to consider the weak paint issue!

Just get the car from the dealer and make sure it comes with the remainder of the warranty. All the problems should be addressed by the dealer and as for the tires, you only have to worry if you really drive aggressively all the time and in that case just look for used tires which you can buy cheap on the internet or this site. Get the one with warranty and sleep tight at night.

Rear camber can be adjusted, front cannot. However, there are camber kits you can install aftermarket. It's just a question of whether you'd rather pay for the camber kit or just get tires more frequently.

Also, not everyone has uneven tire wear problems - my '04 6MT coupe is fine.

Oil consumption - covered under warranty as you mentioned. If you're that worried about it I'd consider an '04 6MT - you get 10 more ft/lb of torque and Brembo brakes as well. I think the 10 ft/lb more than offsets the 18hp difference, giving the nod to the '04.

As far as other 6MT cars in the same price range that combine performance, sport and luxury... if you find one let me know! (I don't think they exist)

Every forum for every car on earth has these stories. Check BMW/Honda/Lexus. I don't care what forum and what company. They all have issues of one sort or another. The perfect car has not yet been manufactured as of yet.

BTW on my 04 I have no problems to report.

All of the bad things you are reading and hearing should scar you away rightfully. You are spending your hard earned money on the car and not the additional problems you are bound to experience.

Take care.

Bad experience, I'm assuming?

Like someone previously said, all cars have their problems. The G has some, but if you go '03-'04 6MT, it is very unlikely you will run into oil consumption issues.

Conversely, if you go 05+, you may run into oil consumption, BUT you should still be covered under warranty.

As far as the tire wear issues, it really isn't major in that it is something that can be corrected with a camber kit, but that not every vehicle has in the first place. When I purchased my car it had unevenly worn rear tires, but it was aligned right before I purchased it, and I have had the mechanics look for uneven tire wear each of my last two oil changes, and they have found none. Thus, the rear realignment must have remedied the problem.

Bought mine new in Nov 03... It is a 04 model and I have had no issues in 83,500 miles, and I have had it Super Charged for the last 43,000 to boot.

Most solid car I have owned and I will drive this until the wheels fall off (and thats not likely, I'm rolling Volks.)

No oil issues, no tranny issues, no Vortech issues, really... no issues.

Well, BlueDevilBAMF and Triji, you are certainly putting me more at ease. So thank you for that. I think I'm going to go for the G, as I had intended to for some time now. But I am still very interested in any reviews or experiences others might like to share.

I have an '06 6MT coupe I bought new in June. I love the car and so far only have one qualm with regards to the paint chipping on the front end, but this can be resolved with purchasing a clear bra. Yeah quite a few people have had the oil consumtion issue for the 05'/06' 6MT coupes, but it would be interesting to find out what % of owners this issue was affecting. I have luckily not had this prob so far, knock on wood.

If you are worried about oil consumption issues, buy one that has already had the issue and has a new engine! That way you don't have to worry about the previous owner beating on it, it's cheaper, will last longer, and it's still under the same warranty!
It's like buying a new car, but used!
