Toe Hook as Jack point?

Anyone ever tried or know if the toe hook could be used as a central jack point for the front? Just to lift the car and put jack stands under

I was thinking about it today - it should be pretty solid.... wondering if anyone has thought of this previously or possibly tried and what your thoughts/experience was... I'm getting tired of jacking up on each side all the time...

I can do the rear fine by driving onto some wood and jacking on the rear diff. but the front is more difficult - my jack won't reach far enough under...

Get some low profile ramps for the front. Or get some wood for the front as well.

i know - i can't get to that - my car is pretty low and even when i drive onto about 1" blocks - i can't reach that point...

I feel like it would be a pretty solid point - but i would prefer not to find out the hard way - was hoping maybe someone else has bigger cojones and has done it before...

I would say you could lift it just enough to get your jack where it needs to be. These cars used to hang from these points in the cargo holds during shipping from Japan. Not sure if that is still the practice.

I stacked 4 pieces of 1x12 incrementally back (like steps), which got me high enough to be able to slip my racing jack below it. The wood is screwed together by the way.

the tow point is for pulling, not lifting. you would be putting considerable torque on the bumper core. i would think that you would run the risk of twisitng up the tow hook and ripping the bumper cover.

I would never even dream of trying this, I don't see this ending well.

I don't think its a good idea to jack on the front tow hook. Do as others said and drive onto 2x8s to raise it up a bit so you can jack at a central jacking point.

Tow Hook....lifting point?

Tow hook is designed for towing, if you use it as a lifting point there's no tell
what you'll screw up! Several company's have ramps for lowered cars, I really
dislike ramps but that would get you high enough to get a jack under your
car.....or I've seen hydraulic jacks that only have a 2 1/2" point which should
go under everyones car but Marty's widebody....

I dreamt of it - but probably won't - was just wondering people's thoughts...

after a very bad experience with ramps on a previous car - those are out of the question... so i guess i will stick with jacking up each side - my car is too low and my jack is too big to get to the central jacking point - even with driving on a few pieces of wood...

I have a craftsman 3 ton - may be 3.5 ton - it's pretty big.

I bought an aluminum racing jack - but didn't like it at all and took it back - it was cheap and crappy - don't remember the brand.


Anyone recommend (or provide link) to a good jack that they've used?

I bought a jack that was low enough to get all the way under my very low front end - far enough in that I would be able to lift the center jack point. I was so happy - until I realized that I couldn't pump it up because there was now not enough room for the handle to move.
