Yes. Get with your lender and give them $6K to bring down the total due, let them do the paperwork, they'll check the buyers credit history, and transfer payments. Once everything is done, you'll be free to go car shopping.

"What if i sell it to someone and have them take over payments... Like the car has a $26k loan, so i will give them $6k and have them take over the car payments.. and i will be free."
sellling the car and buying a new one will be a lose-lose situation no mater how you look at it. Your best option (IMO) would be to just fix it now. you got the 6k, so you're halfway there, just put the rest on a credit card or get a personal loan. and fix it now. Waiting 3 months till you get the money will end up costing you more in the big picture since you will be paying $1800 in car payments and have no use of the car and will have to pay bus/taxi/rental fees in the duration. In the end you will still pay for the repairs but will not have all these additional costs and the inconvience. Besides if you can payoff the CC bill or loan in 3 months you will only pay a nominal amount of interest.

Hey man, I work for an insurance company in the total loss unit. I just looked up the salvage value for your car through a local salvage vendor. About 29 have sold recently, and the HIGH price that it went for was $7,541.79. Just think about that if you plan on selling the car as is...
Actually, all that was calculated on front end damage. Where is your car damaged at? If it's the rear, the salvage value is $10,859.47.
