Weird electrical issue

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I searched and I couldn't find this being addressed anywhere.
Sometimes, pretty rarely, when I try to start my car, power is cut to the whole thing. It works kinda like this:
Put key in ignition, dash lights up as usual, radio comes on, turn key, dash turns off, radio turns off, car acts as if battery is disconnected. The only way I can get power back on, is to open the door, and close it again. I definitely checked the battery terminals, and everything is secure. I'm tempted to put an additional insulating cover over my negative terminal, incase it's touching something, but I still don't see how an additional ground might cause this.

Have you checked your fuses to make sure they aren't blown? Also that sounds like it could be an alternator problem.

You think the battery might be low? I did recently pull the car out of storage, maybe I should grab a charger and top it off.

So I'm a huge idiot. The car wouldn't start this morning, and I pop the hood to take a look, turned out my POSITIVE terminal was loose, but I never saw it because it has the little red cover on it. I never even checked it, because I was sure I only un-did the negative when I stored my car. I feel like the biggest newb now, but I'm glad it wasn't an actual problem with the car.
