Re: trading auto to manual
That really sucks. You're going to lose a good chunk. I hope you saved your OEM parts too. The manual tranny calls to all people. Heh.

saturn used (maybe still do) allow you to return car for any reason within 30 days or 1500 miles. i did it on previous car, didn't like color, wanted better stereo.
you'll take a big hit, though i've read someplaces here before of others who didn't get killed.
04 6mtC, DG - possibly most babied G on the board.

yeah.. i kinda figured.. i didn't even put tax into consideration. i'm guessing prob 5000.. even though my car has less than 800 miles, still used car.. i'm happy with my auto, but feels like there's something missing in terms of 'joy ride' or 'pure performance', and i didn't think my car will become a weekends' car at the time of purchase.. thx anyhow..

Re: trading auto to manual
This is exactly why I chose a 6MT. My background is I have driven autos my entire driving life (9 years). About 8 months ago I started to learn how to drive a stick on my dads V8 Dakota, just in case I wanted to explore other options or in case of an emergency I may have to know how to drive one. Well, I test drove the 6MT and was hooked. So then I bumped up the learning of the manual and will be picking up a newly ordered 6MT later this month.
Let this be a little lesson to those who feel that even though your experience may be lacking and don't know if they should get a 6MT. If you *really enjoy* the feel of the stick and have practiced, go for it, especially in this particular car. The first 1200 miles, being a break-in period, will be the period where I fine tune my ability to drive a stick. Hell, even more miles into ownership I know will still be learning how to drive the stick. I'm absolutely confident that I can get to work (all highway) with the car, so just planning ahead will ensure that I don't get myself into any 6MT bad spots (like needing to go in reverse up a 45 degree incline). I'm very glad that I waited to learn how to drive a stick, instead of just getting the manumagic 5AT.

Re: trading auto to manual
Someone did the math on here - was more like $10k when you take into account the tax hits and things like that.

Re: trading auto to manual
yeah there was a thread very similar(i think it's same) about few month ago... i still can remember my reply
i suggested 1. throw SC in g and your "pure performance" will all set or 2. with about 10k hit get a nice used MT car such as integ GS-R or 97 lude... those are really fun to drive car...
and finally if you have to absolutely have/need/must/want gcoupe 6sp, then you know the answer better.. TAKE HIT!!
but i'll go with 2 route...

Re: trading auto to manual
I was going to do the same thing...but my car had around 2,500 miles at the time...
I went to the dealership and they didn't have a manual to test so I told him to work up some rough figures on what It would cost to upgrade to the 6MT with additional NAV...
When he got to the 10.000 price range I stopped him and quietly walked out of there shaking my head!
Damn they didn't want to come down a penny when I bought my car....and now their telling me the car loses all this money after its registered and driven....they must have bumped their heads....
Needless to say...I'm still the proud owner of a 5AT coupe...when its time to trade up in another couple of years maybe I'll consider a manual, till then it's tiptronic...

Re: trading auto to manual
For a $10k hit you might as well buy a used manual car for $6-8k to get your "manual fix". I'm sure there are plenty of decently performing used cars in that price range.
That or get a new kickbutt motorcycle (R6, CBR600, etc.) and get the manual shifting fix plus a huge dose of hair raising fun...

Re: trading auto to manual
It's the process of owning the car that makes it worth much less. Once there has been an owner the dealer can't sell it for a good price anymore, kind of stupid when your car has like 800 miles on it huh? I'd say juss wait till 05 year comes out and take the hit. If you like the 05 changes then you might gain something, and if not, you might get a discount on the remaining 04's? Don't get another used car, its a waste of money for something you won't like as much as the G. Unless you look into like an S2000, EVO or something.. Which is much more money, even used.
