DEEP Rock chip on windshield.. PLEASE HELP
Hi,
I just got this rock chip on my front glass (windshield) and it's pretty deep.. I think it cracked a little bit.. what should I do? Does the warranty covers this? If I let the dealer install a new windshield on my coupe, I'm afraid that the dealer won't intall it properly and i'll be getting new problems.. such as.. wind coming in when driving..
Any suggestions or advice?

Wow thats amazing a dealer would replace a rock chip under warranty. you can bring it to a windshield repair place to see if they can fill it so it doesn't spider web more or crack. I didn't fill a chip in my windshield on my supra and it started cracking real bad. I found a place to replace it for under $400 though so it wasn't worth it to claim insurance.

I just asked my dealer and also the customer affair.. they said that warranty does not cover it.. only if there is a defect from manufacture they will cover it.
I live in Michigan (Novi), does anyone know any good auto glass replacement near this area?

A claim on your insurance concerning a cracked windshield should be worth it, seeing as you should be getting a very significant discount for the windshield and NO increase in premiums as, in the grand scheme of it all, cracked windshields can only cause them more problems in the long run (accidents, death), so it is in their best interest to help now and not charge you higher premiums.
To insurance companies, the name of the game is safety. Cracked windshields are a liability, and most reputable insurance companies recognize this.

I have had many windshields replaced over the years. Never a problem. I have always uses Safelite Auto. They do it right in your driveway or office parking lot. if you have full glass coverage on your Insurance policy, the carrier will have some one they work with.

you may be able to have the chip filled in rather than replacing the whole windshield. depending on how bad it is. if its has a crack, than you will probably have to replace, but if its just a chip than you should be able to fill it. i had it done a few times on other cars, and you cant even tell once its been filled.

Re: DEEP Rock chip on windshield.. PLEASE HELP
Just replace the winsheild and make a claim under the comprehensive part of your insurance policy. I wouldn't mess around with fixing it from the way you described the damage. I've had several windshields replaced over the years in various vehicles, and have never had any issues with proper sealing, etc.

Take it to a reputable shop. They do as good a job as the manufacturer with no leaks.
Trying to fix the crack would prolly be a waste of $$$$$.

Re: DEEP Rock chip on windshield.. PLEASE HELP
In california, insurance companies cover windshield repair and replacement for no deductible. I had 2 small chips in my MB and they came to repair it. When I said it wasn't good enough they came back the next day and replaced it. It was a mobile service and they came to my home to do the repair and replacement.

Re: DEEP Rock chip on windshield.. PLEASE HELP
I've replaced four windshields on Infiniti cars I've owned...2 on G20, 2 on an I30 (thanks to farmers kicking rocks all over the road)...never any sound/seal problems. I did switch to zero deductible (and glad I did) after replacing the first windshield.
