Mitsubishi got rid of active aero in the newer vr-4's. There's not much to distinguish a vr-4 from an sl/base if the factory rims aren't on it and you can't get a good look at the interior, since the vr-4 had auto climate control and a boost gauge, whereas the lesser models had manual climate control and a voltometer. And if they took off the badging, I know I did cuz I liked to scare/surprise people, then there basically is no way to distinguish the different models.
