AT vs 6MT Performance

Whats the difference if any 0-60, Top Speed, 1/4 mile. Keep hearing that the AT minimizes driver error so more consistent times. Curious to hear if anyone has maxed at Top end.

agree with MrElussive..
performance on the streets will be very close...
but at the track, you will see clearly(if 6MT driver is excellent) 6MT pulling on 5AT... and yes 5AT will have more consistent times compare to 6MT drivers...

Re: AT vs 6MT Performance

I lost to a AT the other day to 75mph from an on ramp. Besides at the track, MT vs AT isn't where you'll see the performance. To me the only difference is the styles of driving between the two.

There is a definite gain in enjoyability in the 6MT over the 5AT :-P

6mt is obviously more fun to drive and gives you more control. I have a 5AT due to Boston traffic and this being my everyday driver. I don't regret it a bit though. MM still gives me some kicks.

Re: AT vs 6MT Performance

When I'm tooling around town in my AT, changing channels while I'm talking on my cell and chomping down on a Burrito Supreme, and I'm sitting at a light next to someone with manual tranny, 90% of the time I'll walk him.

This is probabably a conservative estimate. Here in Memphis we don't have a race track every 3 square miles that's available for people to take their daily drivers to and practice with Skip Barber. Most likely, the manual tranny driver has no clue how to maximize the awesome tool they have at their disposal. I know I don't. My bullet proof AT will get the same 0-60 with me driving it that Dale Earnhardt would have got driving it.

So for all of you guys in your 6MT rides that ARE NOT from Southern California, Dallas or Florida....next time you pull up next to a white G Coupe and see a guy steering his car with his knee while chomping on a happy meal, bring it on!

Yes another advantage of an AT. Yes I know its possible to eat and talk while driving a MT but it is a huuuuuuuugeee pain in the ***.

Re: AT vs 6MT Performance

Ya know, I used to drive around, talking on the phone, eating, whatever when I had an Automatic. Then I got my first manual (the g) and realized why we have laws around here about talking on your cell phone while driving. I still do it and all, but seriously, Im a big fan of the German driving system....if I remember correctly, you loose your license for eating in a car while driving. Performance wise, I'd expect a 5AT to launch on me right now, I dont have the level of clutch control to really launch my car yet, however an auto is foot on the brake, rev it and let go, not really too much to mess up there. Im yet to race another G, but if I did, I would love to race an auto....just to see how I do against the "pre programmed shift points".

Eating in your 5AT is not a good thing. Don't even think about bringing it into my leather haven, where I'll be on my handsfree headset changing into 6th gear.

Re: AT vs 6MT Performance

i've been a MT driver, when i initially drove G35c 5AT, i was kinda disappointed because i thought the MM was a little sluggish. i soon realized that if you drive it more aggressively, it will become more responsive.. like an on demand performance, kinda cool being a new trend and all! i wished it's a 6 speed MM though, sportier w/ paddles?, or w/ a sport mode or something. wont disagree w/ 6pd MT, it's fun!

Drive it like you stole it Mode. Thats what it should be called because once its in MM its usually WOT all the way.

I topped mine out to 155mph in my MM so I'm not dissapointed.
