paint chips and touch up paint
paint chips and touch up paint
luckily I don't have too many paint chips. Oddly, most of the chips are on the hood, not the front bumper. Unfortunatelly, they are noticeable to me (probably not to anyone else unless they look really hard) - the color under the paint is white.
Does using the touch up paint supplied with the car make the situation better or worse? Will the paint end up to be too dark/light/clunky in texture to the effect that it ends up standing out even more? How well does it match up with the factory paint?

Re: paint chips and touch up paint
same on my hood but mines dont look like chips... they look like it wasnt painted properly. The color under my IP is green on the hood. they look like perfect circle and theres like no edge or anything as if its been chipped but more of a inward minuscus. I dont know how to explain that.
Re: paint chips and touch up paint
thats a chip. car paint is so thin that you really dont notice the depth unless you fun your fingernail over it and it catches. Nissan is notorious for bad paint, I knew this going in but am still disappointed. I think one of the site sponsors offers a paint 'pen' that also has clear coat. This is probably the best way to fix the problem without it looking like you were painting your girlfriends toe nails.

Re: paint chips and touch up paint
On my red coupe, the factory touch-up paint works like a champ. Cliff note process.
1) clean chip
2) paint. using #2 artist brush, layer paint in chip (allow each layer to dry); thin paint to flow better
3) cure. once chip paint level just over rest of paint, let cure 30 days; can still gently handwash
4) sand prep. mask off chip area
5) sand. gently sand blob down with 2000 grit wet sandpaper...swiping in one direction
6) polish/wax area; if necessary, use scratch x or gentle rubbing compound to remove scratches, then polish/wax

Re: paint chips and touch up paint
Maybe they do have a matching color under the first layer, but you just can't see it because it matches the first layer.

This subject as been repeated often. However, the best advice for damage is always prevention. The only means of prevention for the Infiniti's weak paint is some kind of cover to keep the road debris off. Thus... the clear bra or the other substitutes. Other than the bras.. you will touch up the damage and flaws on an endless basis..Not to mention the aggravation upon seeing each new blemish. In addition, the touch up will never look factory.

Re: paint chips and touch up paint
that's good to hear mizzoutiger - mine is red also. I might have to try this on a couple of nicks. You mentioned artist's #2 brush (no idea what that is btw) - I'm guessing that the brush that comes with the factory touch up paint is no good?
